Incidence of Massive Transfusion and Overall Transfusion Requirements During Lung Transplantation Over a 25-Year Period.
To establish the incidence of massive transfusion and overall transfusion requirements during lung transplantation, changes over time, and association with outcome in relation to patient complexity. ⋯ The incidence of massive transfusion did not change over time, whereas transfusion requirements in the whole cohort decreased. In patients transplanted from the intensive care unit, massive transfusion and transfusion requirements increased. Massive transfusion was associated with poor outcome.

Ultrasound-Guided Serratus Anterior Plane Block for Pain Management Following Minimally Invasive Repair of Pectus Excavatum.
The Nuss procedure is a preferred technique for minimally invasive repair of pectus excavatum (MIRPE), but it is associated with significant postoperative pain. We assessed the efficacy and safety of an ultrasound-guided bilateral serratus anterior plane block (SAPB) for relieving acute pain from MIRPE. ⋯ Bilateral single-injection SAPB in patients undergoing MIRPE decreases pain and opioid consumption during the early postoperative period.

Thirty-Day Unplanned Reintubation Following Pleurodesis: A Retrospective National Registry Analysis.
To examine risk factors associated with 30-day unplanned reintubation after pleurodesis. ⋯ Given the dearth of population-based studies addressing risk factors of reintubation after pleurodesis, this study suggests further review of preoperative optimization, which is required to improve patient outcomes and safety.
