The novel coronavirus has caused a pandemic around the world. Management of patients with suspected or confirmed coronavirus infection who have to undergo thoracic surgery will be a challenge for the anesthesiologists. ⋯ It should be emphasized that both the management of the infected patient with COVID-19 and the self-protection of the anesthesia team constitute a complicated challenge. The text focuses therefore on both important topics.

ReviewResponse and Operating Room Preparation for the COVID-19 Outbreak: A Perspective From the National Heart Centre in Singapore.
The outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), a respiratory disease from a novel coronavirus that was first detected in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China, is now a public health emergency and pandemic. Singapore, as a major international transportation hub in Asia, has been one of the worst hit countries by the disease. With the advent of local transmission, the authors share their preparation and response planning for the operating room of the National Heart Centre Singapore, the largest cardiothoracic tertiary center in Singapore. Protection of staff and patients, environmental concerns, and other logistic and equipment issues are considered.

ReviewPerioperative Interrogation of Medtronic Cardiovascular Implantable Electronic Devices: A Guide for Anesthesiologists.
This is the final review article in a 4-part series focusing on the perioperative management of the 4 major companies' cardiovascular implantable electronic devices (CIEDs) in the United States. This article presents information pertinent to the perioperative management of Medtronic (Minneapolis, MN) transvenous CIEDs, including responses to magnet application, interpretation of interrogation reports, and basic programming (eg, mode, rate, rate modulation, and tachyarrhythmia therapies). Information regarding the Medtronic Micra (Medtronic, Minneapolis, MN) has been published previously. In addition, it contains an introduction to the concept of magnetic resonance (MR) conditional devices and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) practices.

Randomized Controlled TrialExtraluminal Placement of the Bronchial Blocker in Infants Undergoing Thoracoscopic Surgery: A Randomized Controlled Study.
The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the efficacy of extraluminal use of the bronchial blocker (BB) for one-lung ventilation (OLV) in infants undergoing thoracoscopic surgery. ⋯ Extraluminal use of the BB may provide a solution for a rapid placement and excellent quality of lung isolation, and it may reduce the incidence of intraoperative hypoxemia in infants without increasing the incidence of hoarseness.

Postcardiac Surgery Acute Stroke Therapies: A Systematic Review.
To identify interventions for the treatment of acute ischemic stroke after cardiac surgery and to report the efficacy of these treatments. ⋯ Endovascular thrombectomy, with or without IAT, is being used increasingly with success in patients presenting with postcardiac surgery stroke. However, the number of patients reported is too small to confidently understand its overall effect on neurologic outcomes in this setting.
