ReviewAnesthetic Considerations in the Electrophysiology Laboratory: A Comprehensive Review.
Catheter ablation procedures for arrhythmias or implantation and/or extraction of cardiac pacemakers can present many clinical challenges. It is imperative that there is clear communication and understanding between the anesthesiologist and electrophysiologist during the perioperative period regarding the mode of ventilation, hemodynamic considerations, and various procedural complications. ⋯ Various hemodynamic considerations, such as the intraprocedural triaging of cardiac tamponade and fluid administration during catheter ablation, also are discussed. Finally, this review briefly highlights the early research findings on pulse-field ablation, a new and evolving ablation modality.

Randomized Controlled TrialThe Anti-Inflammatory and Antioxidant Effects of Propofol and Sevoflurane in Children With Cyanotic Congenital Heart Disease.
The authors aimed to compare the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects of propofol and sevoflurane in children with cyanotic congenital heart disease (CCHD) undergoing cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass. ⋯ The results showed that propofol provided a greater antioxidant effect and reduced SIRS postoperatively more than sevoflurane in children with CCHD undergoing cardiac surgery.

Enhanced Recovery After Surgery Is Associated With Reduced Hospital Length of Stay after Urgent or Emergency Isolated Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery at an Urban, Tertiary Care Teaching Hospital: An Interrupted Time Series Analysis With Propensity Score Matching.
To evaluate whether enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) was associated with reduced length of stay (LOS) after urgent or emergency coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG). ⋯ Enhanced recovery after surgery was associated with reduced LOS after urgent or emergency CABG without adverse effects on prolonged ventilation, reintubation, intensive care unit readmission, or 30-day outcomes.

Bleeding Hazard of Percutaneous Tracheostomy in COVID-19 Patients Supported With Venovenous Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation: A Case Series.
Tracheostomy usually is performed to aid weaning from mechanical ventilation and facilitate rehabilitation and secretion clearance. Little is known about the safety of percutaneous tracheostomy in patients with severe COVID-19 supported on venovenous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VV-ECMO). This study aimed to investigate the bleeding risk of bedside percutaneous tracheostomy in patients with COVID-19 infection supported with VV-ECMO. ⋯ In this case series, percutaneous tracheostomy during VV-ECMO in patients with COVID-19 appeared to be safe and did not pose additional risks to patients or healthcare workers.
