Early Acute Kidney Injury Recovery in Elderly Patients Undergoing Valve Replacement Surgery.
This study was designed to determine the incidence, contributing factors, and prognostic implications of acute kidney injury (AKI) recovery patterns in patients who experienced AKI after valve replacement surgery (VRS). ⋯ In patients who develop AKI following VRS, early AKI recovery does not pose additional risk compared with non-AKI. However, AKI lasting more than 48 hours is associated with an increased risk of in-hospital and long-term adverse outcomes.

Observational StudyIntraoperative Assessment of Noninvasive Left Ventricular Myocardial Work Indices in Patients Undergoing Aortic Valve Replacement.
Evaluation of noninvasive left ventricular (LV) myocardial work (MW) enables insights into cardiac contractility and efficacy beyond conventional echocardiography. However, there is limited intraoperative data on patients undergoing surgical aortic valve replacement (AVR). The aim of this study was to describe the feasibility and the intraoperative course of this technique of ventricular function assessment in these patients and compare it to conventional two (2D)- and three-dimensional (3D) echocardiographic measurements and strain analysis. ⋯ LV MW analysis showed a reduction of LV workload after bypass in our group of patients, which was not detected by conventional echocardiographic measures. This evolving technique provides deeper insights into cardiac energetics and efficiency in the perioperative course of aortic valve replacement surgery.

Evaluating the Prevalence of Cardiac Surgery-associated Acute Kidney Injury After Septal Myectomy Combined With Concomitant Procedures in Obstructive Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy.
Hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (HOCM) may be treated by septal myectomy. Cardiac surgery-associated acute kidney injury (CSA-AKI) is a common complication, but little is known about its incidence after septal myectomy. The objectives of this work were to evaluate the prevalence of CSA-AKI after septal myectomy and identify potential perioperative and phenotype-related factors contributing to CSA-AKI. ⋯ CSA-AKI is a common complication after septal myectomy but was transient, and kidney function recovered in all patients.

Virtual Reality Training for Central Venous Catheter Placement: An Interventional Feasibility Study Incorporating Virtual Reality Into a Standard Training Curriculum of Novice Trainees.
This study assess the feasibility of integrating virtual reality (VR) simulation into the central venous catheter (CVC) placement training curriculum. ⋯ This study underscores the potential of VR simulation as a complementary training tool for CVC placement rather than a substitution of standard manikin training. VR is offering immersive experiences and addressing limitations of traditional manikin-based training methods. The integration of VR into training curricula warrants further exploration to optimize procedural proficiency and patient safety in clinical practice.
