Observational StudyMeasurement of Stroke Volume With Echocardiography Compared to Gold Standard Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging: An Observational Study.
The authors aimed to compare the assessment of left ventricular (LV) stroke volume with transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) using 2- and 3-dimensional (2D and 3D) Doppler and volumetric techniques with gold standard cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR). ⋯ Of the 4 echocardiographic LV stroke volume measurement methods the authors assessed, stroke volume with LVOT Doppler using 3D measurement of LVOT area most closely approximates gold standard CMR.

Observational StudyEffects of Postoperative Blood Pressure Management on Delirium Among Patients in the Intensive Care Unit After Cardiac Surgery: An Observational Cohort Study.
This study aimed to determine whether blood pressure control in the early postoperative period was associated with postoperative delirium in the cardiovascular intensive care unit (ICU). ⋯ The MAP range bands above and below the authors' reference band of 60-to- 69 mmHg were associated with decreased risk of ICU delirium development; however, this was difficult to reconcile with a plausible biologic mechanism. Therefore, the authors did not find a correlation between early postoperative MAP control and increased risk of the development of ICU delirium after cardiac surgery.

Review Meta AnalysisHydroxocobalamin for Vasodilatory Hypotension in Shock: A Systematic Review With Meta-Analysis for Comparison to Methylene Blue.
Hydroxocobalamin inhibits nitric oxide-mediated vasodilation, and has been used in settings of refractory shock. However, its effectiveness and role in treating hypotension remain unclear. The authors systematically searched Ovid Medline, Embase, EBM Reviews, Scopus, and Web of Science Core Collection for clinical studies reporting on adult persons who received hydroxocobalamin for vasodilatory shock. ⋯ Mortality was also similar (odds ratio 0.92, 95% CI 0.42-2.03). The evidence supporting the use of hydroxocobalamin for shock is limited to anecdotal reports and a few cohort studies. Hydroxocobalamin appears to positively affect hemodynamics in shock, albeit similar to methylene blue.
