Randomized Controlled TrialDeep Parasternal Intercostal Plane Block for Intraoperative Pain Control in Cardiac Surgical Patients for Sternotomy: A Prospective Randomized Controlled Trial.
Sternotomy pain is common after cardiac surgery. The deep parasternal intercostal plane (DPIP) block is a novel technique that provides analgesia to the anterior chest wall. The aim of this study was to investigate the analgesic effect of bilateral DPIP blocks on intraoperative pain control in cardiac surgery. ⋯ Bilateral DPIP block provides effective intraoperative analgesia and opioid-sparing. It may be included as part of the multimodal analgesia for enhanced recovery in cardiac surgery.

Randomized Controlled TrialComparison of Erector Spinae Plane Block and Pectointercostal Facial Plane Block for Enhanced Recovery After Sternotomy in Adult Cardiac Surgery.
This study aimed to investigate and compare the effects of the pectointercostal fascial plane block (PIFPB) and the erector spinae plane block (ESPB) on enhancing the recovery of patients who undergo cardiac surgery. ⋯ Erector spinae plane block and PIFPB were found to equally affect recovery after cardiac surgery, with comparable extubation times and intensive care unit length of stay.

Randomized Controlled TrialEffect of Mechanical Ventilation Mode Type on Postoperative Pulmonary Complications After Cardiac Surgery: A Randomized Controlled Trial.
It is unknown whether there is a difference in pulmonary outcome in different intraoperative ventilation modes for cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). The aim of this trial was to determine whether patients undergoing cardiac surgery with CPB could benefit from intraoperative optimal ventilation mode. ⋯ Among patients scheduled for cardiac surgery with CPB, intraoperative ventilation mode type did not affect the risk of postoperative pulmonary complications.

Randomized Controlled TrialFacilitating Lung Collapse for Thoracoscopic Surgery Utilizing Endobronchial Airway Occlusion Preceded by Pleurotomy and One-minute Suspension of Two-lung Ventilation.
To assess when and whether clamping the double-lumen endobronchial tube (DLT) limb of the non-ventilated lung is more conducive to a rapid and effective lung deflation than simply allowing the open limb of the DLT to communicate with the atmosphere. ⋯ Suspending ventilation of both DLT limbs for 1 minute after pleural cavity opening and then clamping the DLT lumen of the isolated lung resulted in a more rapid deflation of the surgical lung. This open-clamp airway technique is an effective technique for rapid surgical lung collapse during thoracoscopic surgery.

To study the quantitative potency of plasma albumin on cardioprotection in terms of creatinine kinase-myocardial band mass (CK-MBm) in on-pump cardiac surgery. ⋯ Both endogenous and exogenous albumin appear to be cardioprotective regarding CK-MBm release in on-pump cardiac surgery.
