Topical anesthesia versus sub-Tenon block for cataract surgery: surgical conditions and patient satisfaction.
To compare the surgical conditions and complications and patient and surgeon satisfaction in cataract surgery by phacoemulsification under topical anesthesia (TA) versus sub-Tenon block (STB). ⋯ The data indicate that more significant anesthesia and analgesia was achieved with the STB, leading to more favorable surgical conditions and enhanced patient and surgeon satisfaction.

Is intracameral lidocaine really effective in cataract surgery?
To evaluate the usefulness of intracameral lidocaine in cataract surgery under topical anesthesia and especially if the patient wanted intravenous sedation preoperatively. ⋯ The results of the present study suggest that intravenous sedation preoperatively seems to be an important determinant to relieve the sensation of discomfort/pain during small incision cataract surgery, but intracameral lidocaine was shown not to have a clinically useful role.

Topical nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs in uncomplicated cataract surgery: effect of sodium naproxen.
To investigate whether topical nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are useful, in the absence of concomitant corticosteroid therapy, in limiting postoperative inflammation after uncomplicated cataract surgery. ⋯ NSAIDs can effectively be used without concurrent administration of corticosteroids to control postoperative inflammation after uncomplicated cataract surgery. In addition, naproxen ophthalmic solution may be considered a suitable alternative to the currently available NSAIDs.

Lidocaine-assisted xylocaine jelly anesthesia versus one quadrant sub-Tenon infiltration for self-sealing sclerocorneal incision routine phacoemulsification.
To compare the effect of xylocaine jelly and intracameral lidocaine with one quadrant instant sub-Tenon infiltration for self-sealing sclerocorneal phacoemulsification. ⋯ Whereas lidocaine supported xylocaine jelly anesthesia provided acceptable analgesia for 90% of patients operated, sub-Tenon anesthesia proved to deliver better intraoperative comfort in all patients receiving sclerocorneal incision cataract surgery.

Intraocular pressure, quality of block, and degree of pain associated with ropivacaine in peribulbar block: a comparative randomized study with bupivacaine-lidocaine mixture.
To compare the effects of ropivacaine and bupivacaine-lidocaine combination on intraocular pressure, quality of block, and degree of postoperative pain in peribulbar block. ⋯ Ropivacaine used in peribulbar block is better than bupivacaine-lidocaine mixture under the same standard conditions in terms of reducing intraocular pressure and postoperative pain in intraocular surgery.
