ReviewHeated IntraPEritoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC) for Patients With Recurrent Ovarian Cancer: A Systematic Literature Review.
Despite advances in surgical oncology, most patients with primary ovarian cancer develop a recurrence that is associated with a poor prognosis. The aim of this review was to establish the impact of Heated IntraPEritoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC) in the overall survival of patients with recurrent ovarian cancer. ⋯ Cytoreductive surgery and HIPEC seem to be associated with promising results in patients with recurrent ovarian cancer. Large international prospective studies are required to further quantify the true efficacy of HIPEC and identify the optimal treatment protocol for a maximum survival benefit.

ReviewAntiangiogenic agents in combination with chemotherapy for the treatment of epithelial ovarian cancer.
The purpose of this review was to provide an overview of angiogenesis, including the rationale for targeting angiogenesis as a treatment strategy for epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) and to discuss available clinical trial data with antiangiogenic agents in EOC, with a focus on combinations with chemotherapy. ⋯ Results from recently completed and ongoing clinical trials combining antiangiogenic agents with chemotherapy are awaited in hopes of expanding therapeutic options for patients with EOC.

ReviewRoutine hysterectomy in the surgical management of ovarian cancer: a retrospective case series, physician opinion survey, and review of the literature.
Current international guidelines recommend routine hysterectomy in the initial surgical management of epithelial ovarian cancer. However, there seems to be limited evidence to support these recommendations. We examined the data for a series of women undergoing hysterectomy as part of surgical management of ovarian cancer. ⋯ The incidence of synchronous primary endometrial cancers was 5%, and preoperative ultrasound had a sensitivity of 82% for predicting endometrial pathology. We also surveyed the members of the Australian Society of Gynaecological Oncologists (ASGO) regarding the role of hysterectomy in the management of ovarian cancer. Most of the respondents indicated that they believe hysterectomy should be routinely performed in the management of ovarian cancer but acknowledge that there is a lack of evidence to support the practice.

ReviewSafety profile of trabectedin in combination with liposomal pegylated doxorrubicin in relapsed ovarian carcinoma: considerations for optimal management.
The toxicity profile of trabectedin in the OVA-301 trial, that combined trabectedin with pegylated liposomal doxorubicin for the treatment of patients with ovarian cancer, has shown to be predictable and manageable. No unexpected toxicities were found, with neutropenia and transient increase in transaminases as the most common adverse events reported. The elevation in transaminases appeared early and generally decreased in incidence and intensity over subsequent cycles, with no major clinical consequences. ⋯ Moreover, the Global Health Status score was better for the combination arm in those patients with a PFI of 6 to 12 months that were in response after 5 cycles. Trabectedin with pegylated liposomal doxorubicin is not associated with cumulative end-organ toxicities (renal, cardiac, or neurological toxicities). The toxicity profile is different from other second-line strategies without the presence of inconvenient side effects, such as alopecia, hypersensitivity reactions, hand-foot syndrome, or mucositis.
