The aim of this study was to identify the changes of hematologic and immunological parameters in COVID-19 patients. We collected and analyzed the data of 117 patients who were laboratory confirmed as SARS-CoV-2 infection. The cases were divided into regular group, severe group and critically ill group according to the sixth edition scheme for COVID-19 diagnosis and treatment of China. ⋯ Compared with regular patients, severe and critically ill patients had significantly lower lymphocyte count (p < 0.01), decreased red blood cell and hemoglobin (p < 0.01), low levels of immunoglobulin G (p < 0.05) and significantly higher in D-dimer (p < 0.0001), fibrinogen (p < 0.01), white blood cell count (p < 0.01), neutrophil count (p < 0.0001), interleukin-6 (p < 0.05), C-reactive protein (p < 0.01), procalcitonin (p < 0.01), erythrocyte sedimentation rate (p < 0.05), ferritin (p < 0.01) and lactate dehydrogenase (p < 0.0001). The specific immunoglobulin G antibodies to the SARS-CoV-2 in severe and critically ill patients were significantly lower than that in regular patients (p < 0.05). Our findings suggest that the lymphocyte counts, red blood cell counts and the immunoglobulin G antibodies of COVID-19 patients were impaired to varying degrees and the blood was in a state of hypercoagulation, which were more obvious in critically ill patients.

Pharmacokinetics of dasatinib in a hemodialysis patient with chronic myeloid leukemia and chronic kidney disease.
Until now, no studies have addressed the use of dasatinib in hemodialysis patients. Herein, we report the case of a 73-year-old hemodialysis patient with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) who was treated with dasatinib. For 5 years prior, the patient had received nilotinib for the treatment of CML. ⋯ Ultrasound cardiography revealed a gradual decline in ejection fraction during dasatinib therapy. Because the patient's dasatinib trough concentration was higher (6.1 ng/mL) than the target level (1.5 ng/mL), we suspected the development of dasatinib-related heart dysfunction; thus, dasatinib was discontinued 6 months after its initiation. We concluded that hemodialysis patients are potentially vulnerable to the cardiotoxic effects of dasatinib; monitoring of cardiac function and plasma drug concentration may thus be useful in assessing their condition.

Comparison of clinical phenotype with genetic and laboratory results in 31 patients with congenital dysfibrinogenemia in northern Slovakia.
Congenital dysfibrinogenemia (CD) is a rare disorder of hemostasis. The majority of cases are caused by heterozygous missense mutations in one of the three fibrinogen genes. Patients with CD may experience bleeding and thrombosis, but many are asymptomatic. ⋯ In the present study, we identified three known pathogenic point mutations in the FGA (c.95G > A, c.104G > A) and FGB (c.586C > T) genes. The variants of CD identified in this cross-sectional study were either asymptomatic or had bleeding manifestations and showed similar laboratory features, irrespective of genotype. Results from genetic and clinical studies will continue to yield valuable information on the structure and function of the fibrinogen molecule.

Vincristine (VCR)-induced peripheral neuropathy (VIPN) is a common and life-long toxicity in lymphoma patients receiving current standard chemotherapy. The association between VIPN and genetic polymorphisms is largely unknown in adult lymphoma patients. To examine the possible relationship between known genetic polymorphisms in patients with pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia and incidence of VIPN in adult patients with B cell lymphoma, we examined CEP72 rs924607, ETAA1 rs17032980, MTNR1B rs12786200, CYP3A5 rs776746, rs7963521, and rs1045644 genetic polymorphisms in samples from 56 adult patients with B-cell lymphoma who received rituximab, cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, VCR, and prednisone (R-CHOP) chemotherapy. ⋯ Age, impaired glucose tolerance, number of cycles of R-CHOP, and VCR cumulative dose were not associated with incidence of VIPN. There was no association between the incidence of grade 2-4 or any grade VIPN and these six genetic polymorphisms. These results indicate that CEP72, MTNR1B, ETAA1, CYP3A5, rs7963521, and rs1045644 genetic polymorphisms are not associated with VIPN in patients with B-cell lymphoma who received R-CHOP.
