Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyComparing the Effectiveness of Electroacupuncture with Different Grades of Knee Osteoarthritis: A Prospective Study.
The electroacupuncture (EA) with different number of points significantly affected its efficacy on knee osteoarthritis (KOA), and the severity of KOA also influenced its response to treatments. Hence, we prospectively compared the clinical efficacy of EA on KOA with different severities. ⋯ Patients with KOA, especially those with lower KOA stages, could gain beneficial efficacies from EA treatments with two, four and six points, respectively.

Meta AnalysisElevated Serum Concentration of Chitinase 3-Like 1 is an Independent Prognostic Biomarker for Poor Survival in Lung Cancer Patients.
The chitinase 3-like 1 (CHI3L1) has an important role in cancer progression, and high CHI3L1 expression is associated with the development and progression of cancers. Previous studies had been controversial with respect to the association between CHI3L1 expression and lung cancer prognosis. Thus, we performed a meta-analysis to investigate the prognostic value of CHI3L1 expression in lung cancer. ⋯ Our results suggest that elevated serum CHI3L1 concentration is an independent prognostic biomarker for poorer survival in lung cancer patients.

Circulating miR-181a as a Potential Novel Biomarker for Diagnosis of Acute Myocardial Infarction.
In this study, we tested the hypothesis that miR-181a levels increase during acute myocardial infarction. We investigated circulating miR-181a as a potential novel biomarker for early diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction (AMI). ⋯ Circulating miR-181a levels in patients with AMI were significantly changed in a time-dependent manner, indicating the value of plasma miR-181a as a novel biomarker for diagnosing AMI.

Apoptosis of THP-1 Macrophages Induced by Pseudohypericin-Mediated Sonodynamic Therapy Through the Mitochondria-Caspase Pathway.
Pseudohypericin (P-HY) and its congener hypericin are the major hydroxylated phenanthroperylenediones present in Hypericum species. Our previous study indicated that hypericin was able to function as a sonosensitizer. The potential use of P-HY as a sonosensitizer for sonodynamic therapy (SDT) requires further exploration. Thus, this study aimed to investigate the effects of P-HY-SDT on THP-1 macrophages. ⋯ P-HY-SDT induced THP-1 macrophage apoptosis through the mitochondria-caspase pathway via ROS generation, the translocation of BAX and the release of Cytochrome C to regulate the mPTP opening.

Verteporfin can Reverse the Paclitaxel Resistance Induced by YAP Over-Expression in HCT-8/T Cells without Photoactivation through Inhibiting YAP Expression.
Paclitaxel (PTX) is one of the most effective anti-cancer drugs. However, multiple drug resistance is still the main factor that hinders the effective treatment of cancer with PTX. Several factors including YAP over-expression can cause PTX resistance. In this study, we aimed to verify the role YAP plays in PTX resistance, explore the reversal of PTX resistance by verteporfin (VP) and investigate the effect of combination therapy of PTX and VP on the PTX resistant colon cancer cells (HCT-8/T). ⋯ VP can reverse the PTX resistance induced by YAP over-expression in HCT-8/T cells without photoactivation through inhibiting YAP expression.
