Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyPeripherally inserted central catheter thrombosis--reverse tapered versus nontapered catheters: a randomized controlled study.
To compare the thrombosis rate, ease of insertion, bleeding rate, and complications of a nontapered peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) versus a reverse tapered PICC. ⋯ This study showed a high incidence of thrombosis of peripheral veins used for PICC insertion. The implication of this thrombosis is significant in light of the morbidity and potential mortality associated with this condition. A difference in thrombosis rate between devices could not be detected in this study.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyComparison of intravascular ultrasound with conventional venography for detection of extracranial venous abnormalities indicative of chronic cerebrospinal venous insufficiency.
To investigate prevalence of extracranial abnormalities in azygos and internal jugular (IJ) veins using conventional venography and intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) being evaluated for chronic cerebrospinal venous insufficiency, a condition of vascular hemodynamic dysfunction. ⋯ IVUS assessment of azygos and IJ veins showed a higher rate of venous abnormalities than venography. IVUS provides a diagnostic advantage over conventional venography in detecting extracranial venous abnormalities indicative of chronic cerebrospinal venous insufficiency.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyClinical evaluation of transcatheter arterial chemoembolization with 2-day-soluble gelatin sponge particles for hepatocellular carcinoma-comparison with insoluble gelatin sponge particles.
To compare therapeutic effect, adverse events, and embolized hepatic artery impairment in transcatheter arterial chemoembolization between Lipiodol plus insoluble gelatin sponge particles (Gelpart) and Lipiodol plus 2-day-soluble gelatin sponge particles (2DS-GSPs). ⋯ Transcatheter arterial chemoembolization with 2DS-GSPs resulted in the same therapeutic and adverse effects as chemoembolization with Gelpart while causing significantly less hepatic artery impairment.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyComparison of the efficacy of dexmedetomidine plus fentanyl patient-controlled analgesia with fentanyl patient-controlled analgesia for pain control in uterine artery embolization for symptomatic fibroid tumors or adenomyosis: a prospective, randomized study.
To investigate whether dexmedetomidine infusion could reduce opioid consumption and opioid-related side effects after uterine artery embolization (UAE). ⋯ The addition of dexmedetomidine infusion to fentanyl PCA provides better analgesia, fentanyl-sparing effect, and less nausea and vomiting, without significant hemodynamic instability.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Comparative StudyDoes age of fracture affect the outcome of vertebroplasty? Results from data from a prospective multicenter FDA IDE study.
To evaluate whether the age of a fracture is a variable that can identify patients for whom vertebroplasty would be most beneficial. ⋯ Results of the study showed that the age of a fracture does not independently affect the outcomes of vertebroplasty.
