Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyUse of the peripheral cutting balloon to treat hemodialysis-related stenoses.
To compare the effectiveness and safety of use of the peripheral cutting balloon (PCB) versus standard percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) for the treatment of hemodialysis-related stenoses. ⋯ This prospective, randomized trial comparing use of the PCB versus standard PTA for treatment of hemodialysis-related venous stenoses demonstrated that the PCB provides equivalent 6-month patency to PTA for stenotic and thrombosed grafts.

Randomized Controlled TrialPain and anxiety during interventional radiologic procedures: effect of patients' state anxiety at baseline and modulation by nonpharmacologic analgesia adjuncts.
To assess how patients' underlying anxiety affects their experience of distress, use of resources, and responsiveness toward nonpharmacologic analgesia adjunct therapies during invasive procedures. ⋯ Patients' state anxiety level is a predictor of trends in procedural pain and anxiety, need for medication, and procedure duration. Low and high state anxiety groups profit from the use of nonpharmacologic analgesia adjuncts but those with high state anxiety levels have the most to gain.

Randomized Controlled TrialIntraarticular hyaluronic acid versus glucocorticoid injections for nonradicular pain in the lumbar spine.
To investigate the efficacy and safety of intraarticular sodium hyaluronate (SH) compared with intraarticular glucocorticoids (triamcinolone acetonide; TA) in the treatment of chronic nonradicular lumbar pain. ⋯ Intraarticular SH is a very promising new option for the treatment of patients with chronic nonradicular lumbar symptoms.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study Clinical TrialLong-term results of ePTFE stent-graft versus angioplasty in the femoropopliteal artery: single center experience from a prospective, randomized trial.
To describe a single-center experience as part of a U.S. multicenter prospective randomized trial of PTA versus percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA)- and ePTFE (expanded polytetrafluoroethylene)-covered endoprosthesis placement for the treatment of superficial femoral artery (SFA) and proximal popliteal artery stenoses and occlusions. ⋯ This single-center experience with placement of the Hemobahn endoprosthesis (W.L. Gore & Associates) in the SFA demonstrated a statistically significant improvement in both patency and clinical outcome compared with PTA alone.

Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical TrialIntraarterial lidocaine for pain control after uterine artery embolization for leiomyomata.
To evaluate the effectiveness of intraarterial lidocaine in controlling pain after uterine artery embolization (UAE). ⋯ Intraarterial 1% lidocaine is associated with moderate to severe vasospasm. Lidocaine significantly lowers subjective pain, but there is no difference in analgesic requirements. The routine use of intraarterial lidocaine is not recommended for pain control until the long-term effects of vasospasm on outcome is known.
