Impact of repeated lifestyle counselling in an atherosclerosis prevention trial on parental smoking and children's exposure to tobacco smoke.
To determine whether repeated infancy-onset lifestyle counselling alters parental smoking and children's exposure to tobacco smoke. ⋯ Participation in the atherosclerosis prevention trial slightly decreased smoking among the intervention and control parents. However, counselling led to no differences in parental smoking between the two groups, or in exposure of the intervention and control children to tobacco smoke. This study suggests that more detailed and targeted intervention is required to achieve a significant effect on children's tobacco smoke exposure.

The impact of newborn bathing on the prevalence of neonatal hypothermia in Uganda: a randomized, controlled trial.
To elucidate the impact of bathing on the prevalence of hypothermia among newborn babies exposed to the skin-to-skin (STS) care technique before and after bathing. ⋯ Bathing newborn babies shortly after birth increased the risk of hypothermia despite the use of warm water and STS care for thermal protection of the newborn.

Sustained pressure-controlled inflation or intermittent mandatory ventilation in preterm infants in the delivery room? A randomized, controlled trial on initial respiratory support via nasopharyngeal tube.
To prove the hypothesis that sustained pressure-controlled inflation compared to intermittent mandatory ventilation for lung recruitment via nasopharyngeal tube after delivery is more effective in reducing the rate of endotracheal intubation and mechanical ventilation in very preterm infants. ⋯ Sufficient spontaneous breathing within the first 48 h of life without endotracheal intubation and mechanical ventilation was achieved in about 30% with both methods of initial respiratory support.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study Clinical Trial
A randomized trial comparing oxygen delivery on intermittent positive pressure with nasal cannulae versus facial mask in neonatal primary resuscitation.
To compare, in a prospective clinical trial, oxygen delivery on intermittent positive pressure with nasal cannulae versus facial mask in primary resuscitation of the newborn with moderate asphyxia. ⋯ Oxygen delivery on intermittent positive pressure with nasal cannulae in primary resuscitation of the newborn with moderate asphyxia is a less aggressive and potentially advantageous alternative to the traditional oral route.

Effects of Saccharomyces boulardii in children with acute diarrhoea.
Certain probiotic agents, e.g. Lactobacillus GG, have shown efficacy in clinical trials for the treatment of acute childhood diarrhoea, but few studies have examined the effect of Saccharomyces boulardii. We evaluated the effect of S. boulardii in children with acute diarrhoea. ⋯ The placebo-controlled study suggested that S. boulardii significantly reduced the duration of acute diarrhoea and the duration of hospital stay. S. boulardii seems to be a promising agent for the amelioration of the course of acute diarrhoea in children when used therapeutically.
