Case ReportsNiemann-Pick disease: a rare problem in anaesthesiological practice.
We describe the problems encountered during general anaesthesia in a 2-year-old boy who was suffering from an extremely severe form of Niemann-Pick disease. Attention focused on respiratory difficulties and intubation problems. The usefulness of the lateral position and the limits of the Mallampati score in this case are discussed.

Repeated administration of ketamine may lead to neuronal degeneration in the developing rat brain.
This study was conducted to investigate, in vivo, the dose and duration effects of ketamine administration on neuronal degeneration in the developing rat brain. ⋯ These findings suggest that the duration of ketamine exposure correlates with increased neuronal degeneration in the developing rat brain.
