To examine the pretreatment symptoms and symptom clusters that women awaiting breast cancer surgery are experiencing and the impact of these symptoms on their quality of life. ⋯ Healthcare delivery systems must ensure that early symptoms are addressed effectively in the presurgery period to improve quality of life and reduce adverse outcomes postsurgery.

Nurses' knowledge of evidence-based guidelines on the prevention of peripheral venous catheter-related infections: a multicentre survey.
To evaluate nurses' knowledge of guidelines for preventing infections associated with peripheral venous catheters. ⋯ These data request for more emphasis on international guidelines in infection prevention initiatives.

To examine the validity of the Morse Fall Scale by analysing the electronic medical records on fall risk during different phases of hospitalisation. ⋯ The study results recommend practice change in fall prevention. As the validity was highest when the patient was first classified into the high-risk group based on the Morse Fall Scale cut-off score 51, patients classified as high risk should be placed under special nursing interventions until the day of their discharge, regardless of change in the patient state.

To challenge statements made about 'Careful Nursing' as a 'distinctive system' of nursing established by the Irish Sisters of Mercy, prior to Florence Nightingale, and which is said to have influenced her. ⋯ Nightingale's insistence on respect for patients and high ethical standards remains relevant to practice no less so as specific practices change with advances in medical knowledge and practice.

The influence of cold pack on labour pain relief and birth outcomes: a randomised controlled trial.
(1) To evaluate the influence of local cold on severity of labour pain and (2) to identify the effect of local cold on maternal and neonatal outcomes. ⋯ Local cold therapy could be included in labour pain management.
