Randomized Controlled Trial
A preferred music listening intervention to reduce anxiety in older adults with dementia in nursing homes.
This article reports the results of a study evaluating a preferred music listening intervention for reducing anxiety in older adults with dementia in nursing homes. ⋯ Nursing staff can learn how to implement preferred music intervention to provide appropriate care tailored to the individual needs of older adults with dementia. Preferred music listening is an inexpensive and viable intervention to promote mental health of those with dementia.

Randomized Controlled Trial
The effects of music on physiological responses and sedation scores in sedated, mechanically ventilated patients.
A pilot study designed as future randomised controlled trial was carried out to determine the effects of music on physiological responses and sedation scores in sedated, mechanically ventilated patients. ⋯ For the sedated, mechanically ventilated ICU patient, the benefit of music may lie in the associated (deeper) level of sedation that is achieved, which in turn may make the patient less susceptible to stress and anxiety.

Randomized Controlled Trial
A controlled, randomised trial comparing single to multiple application lidocaine analgesia in paediatric patients undergoing urethral catheterisation procedures.
The aim of this study was to evaluate if discomfort levels are statistically significant when two different topical and intraurethral precatheterisation analgesia strategies are used. The primary objective of this research project was to examine methods to decrease pain experienced by paediatric cystogram patients. ⋯ Topical and intraurethral lidocaine analgesia strategies prior to urinary catheterisation provide an important tool in reducing discomfort for paediatric patients undergoing urinary catheterisation procedures. This study confirms that multiple applications of intraurethral lidocaine gel add little additional benefits in reducing discomfort over single intraurethral application techniques.

Randomized Controlled Trial
The effect of preoperative fasting on postoperative thirst, hunger and oral intake in paediatric ambulatory tonsillectomy.
The aim of this prospective study was to examine whether preoperative face-to-face counselling about a child's fasting and active preoperative nutrition have an effect on thirst, hunger and postoperative oral intake in paediatric ambulatory tonsillectomy. Families, whose child was admitted for ambulatory tonsillectomy, participated in the study (n = 116; 58/58). ⋯ Clinical practice should take the child's perioperative fasting into account in a more accurate way in preoperative counselling of the parents.

Randomized Controlled Trial
A randomised controlled trial of the effects of cryotherapy on pain, eyelid oedema and facial ecchymosis after craniotomy.
To identify the effects of cryotherapy on patient discomfort following craniotomy. ⋯ Cryotherapy, which is both convenient and cost-effective, can be used to prevent postoperative discomforts in a clinical setting.
