A pain education programme to improve patient satisfaction with cancer pain management: a randomised control trial.
The purpose of this study was (1) to evaluate the effectiveness of a pain education programme to increase the satisfaction of patients with cancer with regard to pain management and (2) to examine how patient satisfaction with pain management mediates the barriers to using analgesics and analgesic adherence. ⋯ It is important for health providers to consider patient satisfaction when attempting to improve adherence to pain management regimes in a clinical setting.

A randomised controlled trial of the effect of music therapy and verbal relaxation on chemotherapy-induced anxiety.
To determine the effect of music therapy and verbal relaxation on state anxiety and anxiety-induced physiological manifestations among patients with cancer before and after chemotherapy. ⋯ Prior to chemotherapy, patients with high state anxiety must be sorted from all patients as they are more responsive to interventions. Oncology nurses can offer music and verbal relaxation as adjuvant interventions to reduce chemotherapy-induced anxiety and enhance the quality of care.

'It's not worth stopping now': why do smokers with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease continue to smoke? A qualitative study.
This study aims to explore the experience of cigarette smokers with Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) who have received smoking cessation support and describe their personal decision-making processes regarding their smoking behaviour. ⋯ Smoking cessation is associated with ambivalence in this population. Health professionals need to understand the volatility of patients' decision-making and tailor advice and support to achieve more realistic goals such as reduced consumption.

Effects of a tailored web-based educational intervention on women's perceptions of and intentions to obtain mammography.
Breast cancer is the fourth leading cause of death in Taiwanese women. Mammography has been recognised as a powerful tool for breast cancer detection. This study compared the effectiveness of a web-based tailored educational intervention based on Transtheoretical Model concepts with currently available educational information for improving Taiwanese women's perceptions and intentions to obtain mammography. ⋯ Increasingly, people get their health information from the web. If that education is also tailored to individual needs, it can have a greater impact on their health care decisions.

Effects of music therapy on labour pain and anxiety in Taiwanese first-time mothers.
The purpose of the study was to investigate the effects of music on pain reaction and anxiety during labour. ⋯ The findings support that music listening is an acceptable and non-medical coping strategy for labouring women. Especially, apply in reducing the pain and anxiety for women who are at the early phase of labour.
