Multicenter Study Comparative StudyAssessment of resident surgical skills: is testing feasible?
We have previously shown that in a single residency program objective structured assessment of technical skills (OSATS) is a reliable and valid method of assessing surgical competency. Our goal was to establish feasibility of this evaluation instrument when administered at multiple residency programs throughout the US, and assess the impact of a laboratory-based surgical curriculum on results. ⋯ Large-scale testing has confirmed that OSATS is an objective, reliable, and valid method to assess surgical skills, and can easily be administered in most residency programs. A laboratory-based surgical curriculum improved test results and reduced time to complete tasks.

Multicenter Study Comparative StudyComparison of "instrument-associated" and "spontaneous" obstetric depressed skull fractures in a cohort of 68 neonates.
A depressed skull fracture is an inward buckling of the calvarial bones and is referred to as a "ping-pong" fracture. This study aimed to look at differences between "spontaneous" and "instrument-associated" depressed skull fractures. ⋯ Depressed skull fractures occur in the setting of spontaneous and operative deliveries, although the incidence is higher in the latter case. Depressed skull fractures that are associated with instrumental deliveries are significantly more likely to be associated with intracranial lesions. Persistent disabilities are rare.

Multicenter Study Comparative StudyColposcopy quality control by remote review of digitized colposcopic images.
This study was undertaken to estimate the accuracy of colposcopy quality control review of subjects' digitized colposcopic images during the atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance/low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion triage study (ALTS). ⋯ Colposcopy quality control by review of digitized colposcopic images in clinical trials warrants further evaluation if the accuracy can be improved.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Clinical TrialA comparison of orally administered misoprostol to intravenous oxytocin for labor induction in women with favorable cervical examinations.
The purpose of this study was to compare orally administered misoprostol with intravenous oxytocin infusion for labor induction in women with favorable cervical examinations (defined as a Bishop score of 6 or more). ⋯ Oral misoprostol offers no benefit over intravenous oxytocin for labor induction in women with favorable cervical examinations. It is associated with a higher likelihood of uterine hyperstimulation and may increase the risk of uterine rupture.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Comparative Study Clinical TrialThe MisoPROM study: a multicenter randomized comparison of oral misoprostol and oxytocin for premature rupture of membranes at term.
This study was undertaken to determine whether induction of labor with oral misoprostol will result in fewer cesarean deliveries than intravenous oxytocin in nulliparous women with premature rupture of membranes at term. ⋯ Oral misoprostol does not offer any advantage in time from induction to vaginal delivery or risk of cesarean section.
