The aim of this study is to summarize the current findings concerning the FOXD2-AS1 expression and cancer prognosis. ⋯ Our findings indicated that FOXD2-AS1 may serve as a potential independent prognostic factor in cancer, especially in the Chinese population.

Older kidney transplant recipients (OKTR) are vulnerable to infections and AKI, often prompting hospitalization. This study elucidates etiology of hospitalizations, AKI, and outcomes in OKTR. ⋯ Post-transplant hospitalization and AKI in OKTR significantly impact graft survival. Addressing comorbidities and risks in the pre-transplant and outpatient setting may help alleviate burden of hospitalization and risk of AKI in OKTR and improve graft outcomes.

We aimed to review records from 429 patients with high altitude pulmonary edema (HAPE) to identify some of the salient characteristics associated with this condition. ⋯ A combination of HAPE and HACE was present in 9.32% of the patients with HAPE. HAPE was more prevalent in males. Hepatocytes and the myocardium were likely sites of damage in patients with HAPE, with more severe damage observed in the patients with HAPE/HACE. White blood cell and neutrophil counts were significantly higher than normal ranges and these levels were negatively correlated with the duration of hypoxia exposure.

Aerobic glycolysis is one of the metabolic characteristics of tumor cells, which is regulated by many genes. The aim of our study was to construct glycolysis-related gene signature to accurately predict the prognosis of laryngeal cancer (LC) patients. ⋯ The glycolysis-related two-gene risk score model could be used as a biomarker for LC prognosis.

Costa Rica is ranked as one of the countries with highest incidence of gastric cancer worldwide. Previous studies in Costa Rican populations have revealed associations between gastric cancer risk and several cytokine polymorphisms that seem to play a role in the regulation of the expression of these proteins. In this study, we assessed associations of the polymorphisms IL-6-174 G/C, IFNGR1-56 C/T, IL-8-251 T/A and TNF-A (-857 C/T, -308 A/G) with gastric pathologies in a high-risk population of Latin America. ⋯ Our results indicate that the TNF-A-857*T SNP is among the risk factors associated with the risk of gastric cancer in Costa Rica.
