The purpose of this study was to compare diabetes (DM)-related outcomes between basal-bolus (BB) and premixed (PM) insulin regimens. ⋯ There were no significant differences for glycemic control, hypoglycemia rate or BMI between the BB or PM insulin groups. These results suggest PM insulin is equally effective and safe as BB insulin.

Cardiovascular manifestations in patients with COVID-19 are associated with dire outcomes. Long COVID syndrome is the persistence of symptoms after acute disease and is found in up to 40% of subjects. There is little information regarding subacute echocardiographic manifestations after COVID-19, and no study has included a Mexican mestizo population. ⋯ Patients who recover from COVID-19 have a high prevalence of subtle RV and LV dysfunction using GLS analysis. A moderate to severe episode was associated with worse RV and LV function measured by RV GLS, TAPSE, and LV GLS. Subjects with persistent symptoms had worse RVGLS and TAPSE.

Computed tomography (CT) is the mainstay imaging modality for suspected pleural malignancy. Tuberculous pleural effusion (TPE) can present with various pleural abnormalities. However, few studies have evaluated the different characteristics of pleural abnormalities on chest CT between TPE and malignant pleural effusion (MPE). ⋯ Although focal pleural thickening in TPE mimics that in MPE, the features of MPE are significantly different from those of TPE in terms of size, number, and contour. These different characteristics may help differentiate MPE from TPE in patients with suspected MPE.

Classically described as a disease of childhood and adolescence, diabetes mellitus type 1 (T1DM) can occur in adulthood. Adult-onset T1DM is poorly documented and is often misdiagnosed. This study aims to describe the epidemiological aspect of T1DM with adult-onset and detail its clinical, paraclinical, and therapeutic characteristics. ⋯ Adult-onset T1DM has a different clinical course (slower onset, less abrupt symptoms, more insidious presentation, and more prolonged progression to insulin) that has to be known. Misdiagnosis of adult-onset T1DM can have serious consequences.

Inflammation plays an important role in developing myocardial infarction (MI). This study examined whether a proinflammatory diet is associated with increased risk of myocardial infarction. ⋯ Dietary patterns with high proinflammatory properties are associated with an increased risk of MI. Advocating for low proinflammatory dietary patterns could be an approach for preventing coronary heart disease.
