Influenza infection is rarely associated with cardiac conduction disorder. Cardiac arrhythmias due to such an infection have a full spectrum with ventricular arrythmias being the most common. ⋯ ACE 2 binder influenza viruses have more prone to be associated with cardiac conduction disorder. Oseltamivir for influenza infection is also associated with bradycardia and can shorten or lengthen QT segment. Influenza vaccination has found to be protective from cardiac arrhythmia.

There are limited studies analyzing outcomes associated with acute blood loss anemia in hospitalized patients. ⋯ Acute blood loss anemia is associated with adverse outcomes in hospitalized patients.

Stathmin is a phosphoprotein that plays a role in intercellular and intracellular signalization, inflammation, and differentiation. Our aim was to evaluate the stathmin-2 level and its relationship with the metabolic parameters of newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes mellitus (nT2DM) patients. ⋯ Stathmin-2 levels were found to be elevated in patients with nT2DM and exhibited positive correlations with hyperinsulinaemia, hyperglycaemia, HOMO-IR and hs-CRP levels. These results indicate that stathmin-2 may play a role in T2DM pathogenesis.

Evaluate the association between serum urea at admission and during hospital stay with return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) and in-hospital mortality in patients with in-hospital cardiac arrest (IHCA). ⋯ In conclusion, increased serum urea levels during hospital stay were associated with worse prognosis in IHCA.

Long-COVID is a multisystem disease that can lead to significant impairments in health-related quality of life (HRQoL). Following COVID-19 infection, abnormalities on pulmonary function tests (PFT) are common. The primary aim of this study is to evaluate for any correlation between PFT abnormalities and impairment in HRQoL scores following COVID-19 infection. ⋯ Among patients with an abnormal PFT, there was no temporal association with HRQoL scores as measured by EQ-5D-5 L, GAD-7, PHQ-9, and PCL-5. Among patients with a normal PFT, mobility impairment and anxiety may be associated with COVID-19 infection. Following COVID-19 infection, impairment in HRQoL scores is not completely explained by the presence of abnormalities on spirometry.
