Pure hyperextension thoracolumbar spinal fractures are unusual and occur primarily in patients with ankylosing spondylitis and diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis due to the rigidity of the spine. ⋯ This case reports a rare distractive extension injury in the lower lumbar spine with ureteral impingement. One should be aware of possible complications such as ureteral impingement following a pure hyperextension injury in the lower lumbar spine.

Spinal subdural hematoma as a complication of spinal surgery: can it happen without dural tear?
Post spinal surgery subdural hematoma is a rare entity. This is a report of a case of acute post-operative spinal subdural hematoma, without any dural injury. The case was managed expectantly and went on to complete resolution of the hematoma and full clinical recovery.

Spinal subdural abscesses (SSA) are very rare disease. The etiologies of SSA are hematogenous spread, iatrogenic contamination, and local extension. Elevated WBC counts, ESR, and C-reactive protein are usually found in laboratory tests. ⋯ We suspected a chronic spinal subdural abscess with recent aggravation and immediately performed surgical evacuation. In the surgical field, tensed dura was observed and pus was identified after opening the abscess capsule. Because chronic spinal subdural abscesses are difficult to diagnose, we could differentiate with IDEM tumor exactly and an exact history taking, contrast MRI are required.

C1 laminectomy for retro-odontoid pseudotumor without atlantoaxial subluxation: review of seven consecutive cases.
A retro-odontoid pseudotumor is usually a reactive fibrocartilaginous mass associated with atlantoaxial subluxation (AAS). However, a retro-odontoid pseudotumor not associated with AAS, which undergoes spontaneous regression following C1 laminoplasty, has been reported. The purpose of this study was to report surgical outcomes of C1 laminectomy for retro-odontoid pseudotumor without AAS. ⋯ Our study, assessing the outcome of C1 laminectomy for retro-odontoid pseudotumor, found neurological improvement in all cases. Since all pseudotumors were reduced and additional AAS was not observed, C1 laminectomy for retro-odontoid pseudotumor, in the absence of AAS, is recommended as a therapeutic strategy.

Indocyanine green videoangiography "in negative": definition and usefulness in spinal dural arteriovenous fistulae.
Indocyanine green videoangiography (IGV) has proven its effectiveness in the field of exovascular neurosurgery, both in the intracranial and spinal compartment, but is necessary to define a systematic process for the performance of the IGV to facilitate its interpretation during the procedure. We have defined and applied the concept of videoangiography "in negative" (INIGV) to spinal dural arteriovenous fistulae (dAVF) for the detection and treatment of arteriovenous shunts, so called because the first phase is performed with the vessel suggestive of being pathological occluded. ⋯ The INIGV results are rapid and easy to interpret procedure and provide great advantages to the dAVF treatment. Nevertheless, further studies are needed with a larger sample size to determine if INIGV may reduce the need to perform immediate postoperative DSA.
