Determine impact of metal density on curve correction and costs in thoracic adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS). Ascertain if increased metal density is required for larger or stiffer curves. ⋯ Metal density affects cost but not the coronal and sagittal correction of thoracic AIS. Neither larger nor stiffer curves necessitate high metal density.

Prevalence of C5 nerve root palsy after cervical decompressive surgery: a meta-analysis.
To investigate the epidemiological prevalence of C5 palsy in patients following cervical decompressive surgery. ⋯ Cervical surgery is associated with high risk of C5 palsy, particularly in patients who received LIF and in male patients. These figures may be useful in the estimation of the probability of C5 palsy following cervical surgery.

Combined endoscopic transnasal and transoral approach for extensive upper cervical osteoradionecrosis.
Osteoradionecrosis (ORN) is a rare yet well-recognized complication following radiotherapy to the head and neck. We illustrate the only case of a spontaneous extrusion of the sequestered C1 arch through the oral cavity and discuss our experience with a combined endoscopic transnasal and transoral approach for cervical ORN. ⋯ Using both nasal and oral spaces allows placement of the endoscope in the nasal cavity and surgical instruments in the oral cavity without splitting the palate. Hence, the endoscopic transnasal and transoral approach has vast potential to be effective in carefully selected cases of cervical ORN.

The purpose of the study was to explore the impact of Modic-2 changes on the clinical outcomes of single-level anterior cervical discectomy and fusion. ⋯ Modic-2 changes at adjacent level at baseline does not affect fusion rate or clinical outcome based on functional status but could negatively impact axial symptoms intensity and ASD, compared to patients without Modic-2 changes.
