A new in vivo rabbit model was developed to investigate the effects of shear force on intervertebral disc (IVD). ⋯ The results of this study suggest that disc degeneration can be induced by hyper-physiological shear loading in the rabbit IVD. Long-term shear loading may result in structural disc failure inducing lumbar spondylolisthesis and progressive disc degeneration, which, however, has to be proven by further studies.

Meta Analysis Comparative Study
A meta-analysis of the fusion rate from surgical treatment for odontoid factures: anterior odontoid screw versus posterior C1-C2 arthrodesis.
Surgical treatment for odontoid fractures is widely performed in practice. However, the choice of different surgical procedures remains controversial. Regardless of the surgical technique, the fusion situation is one of the important factors that affect the clinical efficacy. A discrepancy in fusion rate between the anterior odontoid screw fixation approach and the posterior C1-C2 arthrodesis approach has been suggested in clinical research, yet no consensus has been reached. This meta-analysis aims to synthesize the currently available evidence on the topic. ⋯ In light of these findings, we concluded that significant higher fusion rates were observed in patients who underwent posterior C1-C2 arthrodesis surgeries compared to those treated with anterior odontoid screw fixation.

Giant cell tumor of the bone (GCTB) is a benign but locally aggressive tumor. Giant cell tumor of the spine (GCTS) accounts for 3-6 % of GCTB. Surgery remains the treatment of choice. For those not suitable for surgery, therapeutic radiotherapy (RT) is one classic modality. Although there are several articles on therapeutic RT for GCTS therapy, few systemic reviews have been performed on effects of therapeutic RT on GCTS. ⋯ Therapeutic RT could provide a satisfactory prognosis for GCTS patients according to this study, and can be an alternative treatment modality for GCTS patients not suitable for surgery.

Clinical and radiological outcomes of unilateral versus bilateral instrumentation in two-level degenerative lumbar diseases.
To compare the clinical and radiological outcomes of unilateral versus bilateral instrumented in two-level degenerative lumbar diseases after minimally invasive transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (MITLIF). ⋯ Unilateral instrumentation after two-level MITLIF provided similar clinical and radiological outcomes to bilateral fixation in two-level degenerative lumbar diseases. Compared with bilateral fixation, unilateral fixation shortens operation time, reduces intra-operative blood loss and X-ray exposure time, and saves medical expenses with similar postoperative hospital stay and complication rate.
