To investigate the effect of Transcranial Motor Evoked Potentials (TcMEP) in increasing the severity or frequency of post-operative seizures in patients undergoing deformity corrective spine surgery with a known history of seizures pre-operatively. ⋯ TcMEP does not appear to trigger intra-operative or post-operative seizures and is not associated with deterioration in the seizure control of patients suffering seizures pre-operatively.

This study aimed to investigate the intra- and inter-observer reliability of the axial vertebral rotation (AVR) measurements of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) using the center of lamina (COL) method on ultrasound transverse images. ⋯ The pilot study indicated the proposed COL method was a simple and reliable method to evaluate the AVR on ultrasound images. Standardization of the posture during ultrasound scan and taking radiograph is important.

Sagittal balance has recently been the focus of studies aimed at understanding the correction force required for both coronal and sagittal malalignment. However, the correlation between cervical kyphosis and sagittal balance in AIS patients has yet to be thoroughly investigated. This study aimed to clarify the correlation between cervical alignment and spinal balance in patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS). Here, we hypothesized that cervical kyphosis patients can be classified into groups by the apex of thoracic kyphosis. ⋯ Most AIS patients had kyphotic cervical alignment. Patients with CK can be classified as having CK-High, CK-Middle, or CK-Low according to the apex of thoracic kyphosis. CK-High is due to thoracic hypokyphosis with a backward balanced C7SVA. CK-Middle is well-balanced cervical kyphosis. CK-Low has forward-bent global kyphosis of the cervicothoracic spine that positioned the C7SVA forward.

This research examines an approach for enhancing the efficiency of spinal surgery utilising the technological capabilities and design functionalities of wearable headsets, in this case Google Glass. The aim was to improve the efficiency of the selective dorsal rhizotomy neurosurgical procedure initially through the use of Glass via an innovative approach to information design for an intraoperative monitoring display. ⋯ The new display design combined with the appropriate wearable technology could greatly benefit the selective dorsal rhizotomy procedure.
