Acute pancreatitis is a possible complication after scoliosis surgery. Although some risk factors have been documented in the literature, clinical description of pancreatitis diagnosis and ensuing course still remain very poor. The aim of this study was to describe characteristics of acute pancreatitis after scoliosis surgery. ⋯ Acute pancreatitis is an early complication of scoliosis surgery. Clinical signs are atypical and non-severe and can induce misleading forms. Presence of delayed digestive problems should alert the clinician to the risk of pancreatitis in the aftermath of scoliosis surgery.

To analyze the sagittal thoracic parameters of different types of progressive thoracic adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) patients and compare them with healthy adolescents. ⋯ In this 2D analysis of moderate AIS, Lenke 1 curves exhibited normal thoracic sagittal parameters, which brings into question the effect of lordosis on the development of single thoracic curves. Lenke 3 curves exhibited lower thoracic segmental hypokyphosis, and the type 2 showed upper segmental hyperkyphosis. These results should be considered when planning a surgical strategy.

Assessment of sensorimotor control in adults with surgical correction for idiopathic scoliosis.
This study aims at verifying if impaired sensorimotor control observed in adolescents and young adults with scoliosis is also present in adult patients who underwent surgery to reduce their spine deformation. ⋯ This result suggests that dysfunctional sensorimotor integration is still present even in adult idiopathic scoliosis that underwent spine deformation correction.

Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) is a three-dimensional deformity of the spine associated with disturbed postural control. Cervical proprioception participates in controlling orthostatic posture via its influence on head stabilization. We hypothesized that patients with AIS exhibit altered cervical proprioception. ⋯ Cervical proprioception is impaired in certain AIS patients. This anomaly may worsen the prognosis of AIS (headache; balance disorders; worsened spinal deformity; complication after spinal fusion). We recommend systematic screening for altered cervical proprioception in AIS patients.

Spontaneous surgical alterations of the distorted surface shape of thoracic cage in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) may relocate and remodel the bilateral breast mounds. The purpose of this study was to analyze the influence of scoliosis correction surgery on female breast morphology and to identify the risk factors for iatrogenic breast asymmetry secondary to operative breast shape changes in AIS. ⋯ The incidence of aggravated post-operative breast asymmetry is notable. Those with higher thoracic apex level, combined with minor pre-operative breast asymmetry, were at relatively higher risk of iatrogenic breast asymmetry aggravation post-operatively. Moreover, discrepancy existed between the morphometric and radiographic parameters concerning the surgical influence on breast asymmetry.
