To investigate the threshold of the curve difference on ultrasound measurement relative to the previous radiographic measurements to detect curves progression in children who have idiopathic scoliosis (IS). ⋯ The ultrasound imaging method can be applied to identify curve progression in children with IS. Four degree is the preferred threshold value to detect the curve which had progressed, since it also had the lower rate of undetected progressed cases (false negatives).

The objective of this retrospective chart and radiographic review was to present the clinical outcomes and complication rate of a staged approach to modern dual growing-rod (GR) surgery when treating children with severe early onset scoliosis. ⋯ Staged insertion of dual GR systems permits strong distraction, with acceptable correction of severe deformities and minimal complications. The objective of this article is to report a case of type V osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) undergoing posterior instrumented fusion for scoliosis. Type V OI is a moderately severe dysplasia causing primary defects in endochondral bone ossification or mineralisation. It is characterised by hyperplastic callus (HPC) formation, interosseous membrane calcifications, poor bone quality and spinal deformities including scoliosis. Data on the surgical management of spinal deformities in this patient group are lacking. ⋯ V.

Proximal junctional kyphosis (PJK) is a frequent complication, up to 46%, in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis surgical treatment (AIS). Several risk factors have been evoked but remain controversial. The purpose of this study was to analyze the incidence of PJK in a multicenter cohort of AIS patient and to determine risk factor for PJK. ⋯ PJK is a frequent complication in thoracic AIS, occurring 16%, but remains often asymptomatic (less than 3% of revisions in the entire cohort). An interesting finding is that patients with high pelvic incidence and consequently large LL and TK were more at risk of PJK. As demonstrated in ASD, one of the causes of PJK might be postoperative posterior imbalance that can be due to increased LL, insufficient TK or inflection point shift during surgery. The purpose of this report is to describe the Global Spine Care Initiative (GSCI) contributors, disclosures, and methods for reporting transparency on the development of the recommendations. ⋯ The GSCI participants have broad professional experience and wide international distribution with no discipline dominating the deliberations. The GSCI believes this set of papers has the potential to inform and improve spine care globally. These slides can be retrieved under Electronic Supplementary Material.
