To investigate the influence of the immediate post-operative change in disc space angle relative to preoperation on heterotopic ossification (HO) occurrence following cervical disc arthroplasty (CDA) and on clinical and radiographic outcomes. ⋯ Patients with a more than 5° increase in immediate post-operative DSA showed adverse effects on HO formation. Overcorrected DSA was associated with poor prosthesis stability, inadequate endplate coverage, and limited SROM, although it did not affect the clinical outcomes. Management of a pseudarthrosis with sagittal malalignment in a patient with ochronotic spondyloarthropathy.
Ochronotic spondyloarthropathy is an uncommon disease, and its association to sagittal malalignment in the context of a pseudarthrosis has never been described. ⋯ This is the first case in the literature to describe a post-laminectomy pseudarthrosis leading to a significant sagittal malalignment in a patient with ochronotic spondyloarthropathy. Management of such a case is challenging as the spine is partially ankylosed; therefore, a long construct is advisable to avoid ankylosing disorders related complications.

The pathogenesis of ossification of posterior longitudinal ligament (OPLL) is not completely clear. Previous study has confirmed a single-pass type I endoplasmic reticulum (ER) membrane protein kinase (PERK), which is a major transducer of the ER stress, participates in the process of OPLL in vitro. This study aimed to demonstrate the role of ER stress in mechanical stress (MS)-induced OPLL. ⋯ Activated ER stress was observed in OPLL patients both in vitro and in vivo. Mechanical stress could activate ER stress response in posterior longitudinal ligament fibroblasts and further promote OPLL in vitro. In this process, ER stress might work through the MAPK signaling pathways. These slides can be retrieved under Electronic Supplementary Material.

Klippel-Feil syndrome (KFS) occurs due to failure of vertebral segmentation during development. Minimal research has been done to understand the prevalence of associated symptoms. Here, we report one of the largest collections of KFS patient data. ⋯ KFS is associated with a number of musculoskeletal and neurological symptoms. Fusions are more prevalent toward the center of the cervical region, and less common at the occipital/thoracic junction. Associated comorbidities including Sprengel deformity may be more common in KFS patients with multilevel cervical fusions. These slides can be retrieved under Electronic Supplementary Material.

The aim of this retrospective study was to evaluate the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) as a potential parameter of spinal cord damage in cervical spine instability at the atlanto-axial level in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients. ⋯ The conducted study demonstrates the applicability of the ADC maps in the identification of spinal cord compression due to anterior AAS in RA patients. The results encourage the practical use of the ADC as an additional parameter in the qualification for surgical treatment. These slides can be retrieved under Electronic Supplementary Material.
