To clarify the impact of restriction of hip extension on radiographic whole-body sagittal alignment with using postoperative changes of radiographical parameters for hip osteoarthritis. ⋯ Patients with restriction of hip extension showed global spine imbalance, and significant changes in TK, SS, and KF were observed after arthroplasty. The presence of hip joint disorder and H-ROM restriction must be considered when evaluating spinopelvic alignment and whole-body sagittal alignment.

The SHILLA™ Growth Guidance system is a stainless-steel rod and screw system used for Early Onset Scoliosis which incorporates a unique flanged set screw designed to capture the rod, while allowing it to slide as the patient grows. Concomitant with this design is the potential for generation of wear debris and for an inflammatory host response. We hypothesized that the magnitude of the host response adjacent to the unlocked screws and rods would be greater than the host response to the locked rod/screws. ⋯ The peri-prosthetic tissue response to the unlocked rods/screws had a higher reactivity grade (slight reaction, Δ = 4.0) per ISO 10993 Part 6 compared to the locked screws in three patients with the SHILLA™ Growth Guidance scoliosis system.

To describe a comprehensive setting of the different alternatives for performing a single position fusion surgery based on the opinion of leading surgeons in the field. ⋯ A recommendation of the setting for performing single position fusion surgery procedure (LSPS, LA and PLS) was developed based on a survey of leaders in the field.

Circumferential (AP) lumbar fusion surgery is an effective treatment for degenerative and deformity conditions of the spine. The lateral decubitus position allows for simultaneous access to the anterior and posterior aspects of the spine, enabling instrumentation of both columns without the need for patient repositioning. This paper seeks to outline the anatomical and patient-related considerations in anterior column reconstruction of the lumbar spine from L1-S1 in the lateral decubitus position. ⋯ A development of a framework to analyze these factors will result in improved patient outcomes and a reduction in complications for lateral ALIF, transpsoas, and anterior-to-psoas surgeries.
