The aim of this study was to determine the incidence and factors associated with the development of metastatic spinal cord compression (MSCC) after cervical cancer (CC). ⋯ Our findings revealed the incidence and factors associated with MSCC, indicating a subset of patients who may be potential targets for the prevention and early treatment of this condition, indicating unprecedented and relevant data for the Brazilian epidemiological scenario due to the high CC incidence rates.

The association between idiopathic scoliosis (IS) and sports activities remains vague. We aimed to analyse their effect on full-time braced adolescents with IS. ⋯ This study shows that sports activities increase the odds of improvement at 18-month follow-up in adolescents with IS treated with a full-time brace. The odds of improvement increase with sports week frequency.

Aging and spinal disease impair standing whole body sagittal alignment (WBS alignment), which leads to stooping. When WBS alignment deteriorates, compensatory mechanisms are activated to maintain standing posture. Increase of the compensation impairs health-related quality of life (HRQOL). The purpose of this research was to determine whether postural factors, age, and sex affect HRQOL. ⋯ In healthy volunteers, SRS-22r is affected by aging, sex (woman had a lower score), and sagittal malalignment. Neither Standing balance nor SMM, however, affect SRS-22r.4.

To probe the pathophysiological basis of Modic change (MC) by multimodal imaging rather than by MRI alone. ⋯ Multimodal imaging showed many radiological signs not easily seen in MRI alone and thus missed in Modic classification. There were distinct radiological differences between EPCs of trauma and infection which allowed the development of an EIPS. The scores showed that 67.64% of our study patients with Modic changes had EPCs resembling infection rather than trauma suggesting the possibility of an infective aetiology and allowing us to propose an alternate theory of 'Primary Endplatitis'.

To explore the apparent diffusion coefficients of intervertebral discs in an asymptomatic pediatric cohort. ⋯ In our knowledge, our study provided the first diffusive properties of asymptomatic intervertebral discs in an adolescent cohort. ADC of NP was slightly higher than adults'. ADC evolutions of AAF were correlated with lordosis concavity which pointed out the role of compressive strain on fluid transport properties. This study could furnish information about segment homeostasis for exploration of pediatric spinal pathologies.
