Randomized Controlled TrialA modified 6-form Tai Chi for patients with COPD.
24-form Tai Chi is a traditional exercise popular among old people in China, but it has some complex movements beyond of capabilities of patients with COPD. This study was to modify and simplify 24-form Tai Chi and evaluate effects of the modified Tai Chi on lung function, exercise capacity, dyspnea symptom and health status in patients with COPD. ⋯ This modified 6-form Tai Chi routine is easy to grasp, easy to adhere to, safe to practice and effective to improve lung function, exercise capacity, health status and to prevent dyspnea symptom from getting worse for patients with COPD and it can be recommended as a suitable exercise therapy for them.

Randomized Controlled TrialThe impact of silymarin on antioxidant and oxidative status in patients with β-thalassemia major: A crossover, randomized controlled trial.
Blood transfusion therapy is lifesaving for individuals with β-thalassemia major (β-TM). Iron burden following blood transfusion is the main cause of oxidative stress (OS) and organ dysfunction in these patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of silymarin on serum antioxidant and oxidative status in patients with β-TM. ⋯ Silymarin was effective in decreasing serum OS and enhancing serum antioxidant capability in patients with β-thalassemia major. Silymarin given as an adjuvant therapy to standard iron chelators may provide an improvement in the OS measurements obtained in these patients, with accompanying benefit.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyComparative effects of 12 weeks of equipment based and mat Pilates in patients with Chronic Low Back Pain on pain, function and transversus abdominis activation. A randomized controlled trial.
Pilates method has been recommended for patients with chronic low back pain (CLBP) and the activation of transversus abdominis has been deemed to play an important role in the improvement of these patients. Nevertheless, the evidence of the activation of TrA in Pilates practitioners remains unclear. ⋯ Equipment based and mat Pilates modalities are both effective in the improvement of TaA activation in patients with CLBP with associate improvement on pain, function and kinesiophobia. Significant differences were observed after 12 weeks of intervention in PMG and PAG with faster improvement in PAG suggesting that, feedback provided by equipment could help in the interiorization of Pilates principles.
