After a resuscitation situation a SARS-CoV‑2 sample from a 55-year-old man who had been in the hospital for elective ablation for atrial fibrillation was tested positive. The patient history revealed that there had been a previous confirmed contact with a COVID-19 positive patient. ⋯ After about 2 weeks of treatment, weaning had to be stopped due to the deterioration of the severe septic condition of the patient and he showed microbiological evidence of a superinfection with Cryptococcus neoformans and later Leclercia adecarboxylata. The patient was treated successfully and survived the disease.

The efficacy of erector spinae plane block (ESPB) for pain control in other surgeries remains an interesting topic of discussion. This study aimed to evaluate the safety and efficacy and quality of recovery of ultrasound-guided bilateral ESPB in laparoscopic surgery for colon cancer. ⋯ This study confirmed that ultrasound-guided ESPB technology is safe and beneficial for patients with colon cancer undergoing laparoscopic colon surgery.

In contrast to prehospital care there is a lack of specifications for the organization and equipment of medical emergency teams for in-hospital emergency care. ⋯ Training and equipment of medical emergency teams in the Federal Republic of Germany is heterogeneous. They should at least meet the standards commonly used in prehospital emergency medicine and include the availability of a portable 12-lead electrocardiogram, a ventilator with the possibility of noninvasive ventilation and a video laryngoscope. Regardless of the size of the hospital, continuous availability of all members of the medical emergency teams should be ensured.

Aortic arch repair for aortic dissection is still associated with a high mortality rate. Providing adequate means of neuromonitoring to guide cerebral hemodynamics is advantageous, especially during selective anterior cerebral perfusion (SACP). ⋯ Monitoring consisting of BIS, NIRS, and TCD may have an impact on hemodynamic management in aortic arch operations.
