Background and Objectives: Femoral head and liner exchange is an established treatment for polyethylene wear but has had a more limited role in the treatment of other conditions including dislocation, because of concerns about an increased postoperative dislocation rate. Some authors have considered dislocation associated with polyethylene wear to be a contraindication for this procedure. Materials and Methods: Our retrospective review evaluated the outcome of head and liner exchange in a small consecutively operated heterogeneous cohort of 20 patients who presented with dislocation unrelated to trauma, component malposition or component loosening. ⋯ One additional patient who had prior revision surgery for femoral component fracture suffered dislocation after index surgery, but was successfully treated with closed reduction. Conclusions: In our study population, femoral head and liner exchange was an effective treatment option for patients with prior primary total hip arthroplasty and also for a highly select group of revision total arthroplasty patients with no prior history of dislocation. Femoral head and liner exchange does not appear to be a viable treatment option for patients who have had revision total arthroplasty after prior dislocations.

Angiogenesis is a biological process that involves the formation of new blood vessels from the existing vasculature, and it plays a fundamental role in the development and progression of several types of cancer, including lung cancer. The angiopoietin/Tie2 ligand/receptor system orchestrates vascular integrity. In particular, Angiopoietin-1 activates the endothelial cell (EC)-specific receptor tyrosine kinase,Tie2,which is essential for preserving endothelial quiescence. ⋯ The role of the Angiopoietin-1 and Angiopoietin-4 levels in NSCLC development requires further investigation. The present review focuses on the clinical impact of the Angiopoietin-1, Angiopoietin-2, and Angiopoietin-4 levels in patients diagnosed with NSCLC, emphasizing the interaction between them, and how they affect the development, progression, and metastasis of lung disease. Finally, it estimates the role of angiopoietins levels in the effective therapy of lung cancer patients.

The Spiked Helmet Sign Predicting a Poor Outcome in a Patient with Non-Myocardial Infarction ST-Segment Elevation.
Spiked helmet sign is a novel electrocardiogram marker that reflects a poor prognosis, and may mimic myocardial infarction, especially in patients with an acute alteration of mental status or out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. In cases where a spiked helmet sign is missed, there may be a delay in surgical intervention for the underlying conditions because of unnecessary cardiac catheterization. ⋯ Therefore, early recognition of spiked helmet sign is useful for timely correction of the underlying disease and prevention of poor outcomes. Herein, we describe a rare case of a patient with internal bleeding and subarachnoid hemorrhage presenting with spiked helmet sign on an electrocardiogram.

Loss of sense of smell is a well-known non-motor symptom of Parkinson's disease (PD). Here, we present insight into the association between PD advancement and equivalents of smell loss in olfactory-eloquent brain areas, such as the posterior cortex and orbitofrontal cortex. ⋯ Axial diffusivity, mean diffusivity, and radial diffusivity were significantly higher in olfactory ROIs in advanced PD patients. The results of this preliminary study indicate that PD advancement is associated with progressive neurodegeneration in olfactory-related brain areas.

Background and Objectives: It is known that there may be an interconditionality between social status, personality disorders, and aggressive behavior. This study aimed to analyze the social and psychiatric diagnosis characteristics in subjects imprisoned for domestic violence acts compared to other types of aggressive behaviors. Materials and Methods: We performed a retrospective study using psychiatric medical-legal reports at the National Institute of Legal Medicine "Mina Minovici" Bucharest from 2016 to 2020. ⋯ Significantly more DVO had suicidal tendencies 26 (20%) compared to OVO 9 (9%). DVO subjects had significantly less often unsocialized conduct disorder or antisocial personality disorder compared to the OVO group. Conclusions: We found that DVO, compared to the OVO, were more numerous, older, less abusive, with a less frequent history of psychoactive substance abuse and addictions, and were less frequently indifferent to the committed acts.
