ATL is a rare but a highly aggressive T-cell neoplasm associated with human T-cell leukemia virus-1 (HTLV-1) infection. Human T-cell lymphotropic virus type-1 (HTLV-1) is a oncogenic retrovirus responsible for the development of adult T-cell leukemia (ATL), but also for other non-malignant diseases, such as HTLV-1-associated myelopathy/tropical spastic paraparesis (HAM/TSP). HTLV-1 has a higher prevalence in Japan, the Caribbean, South America, intertropical Africa, Romania, and northern Iran. ⋯ Numerous factors can be implicated, such as central nervous system infiltrates, neurolymphomatosis, complications to medication or allogeneic stem cell transplantation, HAM/TSP, infections, metabolic disturbances. The neurological complications are not always easy to recognize and treat. Thus, this review underlines the necessity of a multidisciplinary approach in ATL patients with neurological symptomatology.

The Effect and Safety of Rapid and Gradual Urinary Decompression in Urine Retention: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.
Background and objectives: Trials to evaluate the effect and safety of rapid and gradual urinary decompression have been published for decades. Due to inconclusive results, this study aimed to assess whether rapid bladder decompression increased complications in adults with acute urinary retention. Materials and Methods: We searched the Cochrane Library, EMBASE, Google Scholar, and PubMed databases for articles published from the database inception to 31 August 2021. ⋯ In secondary outcome, there were no reported events of circulatory collapse in the current studies. Conclusions: The currently available data suggest that rapid urinary decompression is an effective and safe method with a complication rate similar to that of gradual decompression in an acute urinary retention population. Further large-scale randomized studies are required.

Evaluation of Blood Intercellular Adhesion Molecule-1 (ICAM-1) Level in Obstructive Sleep Apnea: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.
Background and objective: Intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) appears to be an active and important biomarker for decreasing the risk of cardiovascular issues among individuals with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Herein, a systematic review and meta-analysis was designed to probe whether plasma/serum ICAM-1levels are different in adults with OSA compared to adults with no OSA, as well as adults with severe OSA compared to adults with mild/moderate OSA. Materials and methods: A thorough and systematic literature search was performed in four databases (PubMed/Medline, Web of Science, Scopus, and Cochrane Library) until 17 July 2022, without any age and sample size restrictions to retrieve the relevant articles. ⋯ Conclusions: Th results of the present meta-analysis showed that serum/plasma ICAM-1 levels in adults with OSA was higher than serum/plasma ICAM-1 levels in controls. Similarly, serum/plasma ICAM-1 levels in adults with severe OSA were higher compared to serum/plasma ICAM-1 levels of adults with mild or moderate OSA. Therefore, ICAM-1 may be used as an additional diagnostic and therapeutic biomarker in adults with OSA.

Long-Term Prognostic Value of Myocardial Viability by Myocardial Contrast Echocardiography in Patients after Acute Myocardial Infarction: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.
Background and Objectives: According to recent guidelines, myocardial contrast echocardiography (MCE) is recommended for detecting residual myocardial viability (MV). However, the long-term prognostic value of MV as assessed by MCE in identifying major adverse cardiac events (MACE) after acute myocardial infarction (AMI) remains undefined. Materials and Methods: We searched multiple databases, including PubMed, EMBASE, and Web of Science for studies on the prognostic value of MCE for clinical outcomes in AMI patients. ⋯ Conclusions: Residual MV evaluated by MCE may be an effective long-term prognostic tool for predicting MACE in patients after AMI that can provide moderate predictive accuracy. The assessment of MV by MCE may become an alternative technique with the potential to rapidly provide important information for improving long-term risk stratification in patients after AMI, at the bedside in clinical practice, especially for patients who cannot tolerate prolonged examinations. The Effect of Short and Long-Term Therapeutic Treatment with Insoles and Shoes on Pain, Function, and Plantar Load Parameters of Women with Plantar Fasciitis: A Randomized Controlled Trial.
Background and Objectives: Plantar fasciitis (PF) is a prevalent musculoskeletal disease, with inflammation at the origin of the plantar fascia, that affects sedentary people, particularly middle-aged women. Foot pain and functional limitations lead patients to seek treatment. Investigate the therapeutic effect of conservative treatment combining a custom insole with minimalist flexible shoes and the shoes alone in a gait-training protocol, in the short and long term, in women with PF. Materials and Methods: Design: A randomized, controlled, and single-blind trial. ⋯ Gait-training protocol wearing the minimalist shoes alone (SG, n = 12, age: 46.4 ± 9.6, height: 1.60 ± 0.2, BMI: 28.8 ± 4.2), with a custom insole in the shoes (CIG, n = 14, age: 48.9 ± 9.8, height: 1.60 ± 0.1, BMI: 26.7 ± 5.6), and control (CG, n = 10, age: 46.1 ± 10.7, height: 1.61 ± 0.2, BMI: 26.4 ± 4.8). Evaluations were performed at baseline (T0) and after three (T3) and six (T6) months. The intervention had a duration of six months (six hours a day, seven days a week). Primary outcomes were rearfoot pain (visual analogue scale), the Foot Function Index (FFI), Foot Health Status Questionnaire (FHSQ-Br), and 6 min walk test (6MWT). The secondary outcomes were plantar pressure distribution during gait, measured by the pressure platform, and foot posture. Results: The CIG was effective for reducing pain and improving the FPI after T6 compared to CG. The FPI, FHSQ-Br and 6MWT demonstrated improvements after T6 in both the CIG and SG, compared to the CG. After T6, contact area (rearfoot) and maximum force (forefoot) reduced with CIG. Maximum force (midfoot and rearfoot) reduced with CIG and SG, as did peak pressure (forefoot and midfoot) in relation to CG. Conclusions: A customized insole associated with minimalist flexible shoes during a gait-training protocol can be recommended as a more effective treatment than minimalist flexible shoes alone over the short and long term, for reduction in calcaneus pain, increased function and foot health, and improved walking through reduced plantar load in women with PF.
