Immunoglobulin G4-Related Disease of the Intestine: A Clinicopathological Entity to Be Considered.
Background and Objectives: Immunoglobulin G4-related disease (IgG4-RD) is a recently recognized immune-mediated, systemic condition of unknown etiology, associated with fibroinflammatory lesions. Diagnosis is set in the presence of IgG4-positive plasma cell infiltration of the involved tissue and elevated serum IgG4 levels. However, approximately 30% of patients have normal serum IgG4 levels. ⋯ Results: IgG4-RD was set in patients previously diagnosed as affected by Crohn's disease. Conclusions: Systematic IgG4 immunohistochemical staining should be considered in the diagnostic workup of patients with gastrointestinal strictures, mimicking Crohn's disease. The exact prevalence of the condition is likely more frequent than reported and should be defined by a large series of consecutive patients.

Background and Objectives: The rise in suicidal attempts has led to an increase in unusual intoxication cases. The ingestion of anhydrous calcium chloride (CaCl2) causes direct injury to the gastrointestinal wall via a thermal burn. Therefore, previous reports on CaCl2 ingestion primarily considered the gastrointestinal injury. ⋯ The bloody emesis and abdominal pain resolved quite early, despite her minimal mention of symptoms, possibly due to her suspected negative psychiatric symptoms. Conclusions: In this case, we observed dynamic and prolonged multiple electrolyte imbalances along with the early-phase ECG changes, all of which responded well to supportive care. This report adds to the understanding of the diverse manifestations and management of CaCl2 intoxication.

Background and Objectives: To date, the therapeutic potential of skeletal muscle-derived stem/progenitor cells (MDSPCs) for acute kidney injury (AKI) has only been evaluated by our research group. We aimed to compare MDSPCs with bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSCs) and evaluate their feasibility for the treatment of AKI. Materials and Methods: Rats were randomly assigned to four study groups: control, GM (gentamicin) group, GM+MDSPCs, and GM+BM-MSCs. ⋯ There was no significant difference in any parameters between the MDSPCs and BM-MSCs groups (p > 0.05). Conclusions: MDSPCs and BM-MSCs can migrate and incorporate into injured renal tissue, resulting in a beneficial impact on functional and morphological kidney recovery, which is likely mediated by the secretion of paracrine factors and an anti-apoptotic effect. MDSPCs were found to be non-inferior to BM-MSCs and therefore can be considered as a potential candidate strategy for the treatment of AKI.

Background and Objectives: The association between myasthenia gravis (MG) and depression is intricate and characterized by bidirectional causality. In this regard, MG can be a contributing factor to depression and, conversely, depression may worsen the symptoms of MG. This study aimed to identify any differences in the progression of the disease among patients with MG who were also diagnosed with depression as compared to those without depression. ⋯ Disease severity, along with younger age and higher doses of cortisone, is a significant factor associated with depression in patients with MG. Substantial reductions in MG-ADL and QMG scores were observed within each group after six months, highlighting the effectiveness of MG management. The findings suggest that addressing depressive symptoms in MG patients, in addition to standard MG management, can lead to improved clinical outcomes.

Expanding Robotic-Assisted Surgery in Gynecology Using the Potential of an Advanced Robotic System.
Minimally invasive surgery (MIS) in gynecology was introduced to achieve the same surgical objectives as traditional open surgery while minimizing trauma to surrounding tissues, reducing pain, accelerating recovery, and improving overall patient outcomes. Minimally invasive approaches, such as laparoscopic and robotic-assisted surgeries, have become the standard for many gynecological procedures. In this review, we aim to summarize the advantages and main limitations to a broader adoption of robotic-assisted surgery compared to laparoscopic surgeries in gynecology. We present a new surgical system, the Dexter Robotic System™ (Distalmotion, Switzerland), that facilitates the transition from laparoscopy expertise to robotic-assisted surgery.
