Background and Objectives: Posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF) plays a crucial role in addressing various spinal disorders. The success of PLIF is contingent upon achieving bone fusion, as failure can lead to adverse clinical outcomes. Demineralized bone matrix (DBM) has emerged as a promising solution for promoting fusion due to its unique combination of osteoinductive and osteoconductive properties. ⋯ Results: Fusion rates were 88.3% for Exfuse, 94.3% for Bongener, and 87.7% for Bonfuse, with no significant differences. All groups exhibited significant improvement in clinical outcomes at 12 months after surgery, but no significant differences were observed among the three groups. Conclusions: There were no significant differences in fusion rates and clinical outcomes among Exfuse, Bongener, and Bonfuse in PLIF surgery.

Nasopharyngeal and Peripheral Blood Type II Interferon Signature Evaluation in Infants during Respiratory Syncytial Virus Infection.
Background and Objectives: In this study, we applied one-step real time rt-PCR technology type II INF signature to blood and nasopharyngeal (NPS) swabs of acute early recovery children < 1 years hospitalized for bronchiolitis with laboratory-confirmed RSV infection. Materials and Methods: A prospective observational case-control study was conducted in 2021-2022. The study took place in Children Hospital "Regina Margherita", Torino Italy. ⋯ Results: IFN levels were downregulated in the peripheral blood of bronchiolitis patients; these data were not confirmed in the nasopharyngeal swab. There was no correlation between NPS and the type II IFN score in peripheral blood. Conclusions: our study shows for the first time that type II IFN score was significant reduced in peripheral blood of infants with bronchiolitis by RSV compared to age-matched healthy controls; in the NPS swab this resulted downregulation was not statistically significant and the type II IFN score in the NPS swab can be used as marker of resolution of infection or improvement of clinical conditions.

With the life expectancy increasing, there is a growing need for prosthetic dental treatments to restore the oral health, function, and quality of life of edentulous patients. Presently, only a few articles are available describing the oral rehabilitation of patients with severely resorbed ridges with milled complete dentures. This clinical case report provides a straightforward protocol consisting of a combination of analog and digital techniques for the rehabilitation of edentulous patients with severely resorbed ridges with milled fixed and removable complete dentures. ⋯ These favorable outcomes were achieved by using the patient's existing PMMA complete denture as a custom tray for a final impression with light-bodied Polyvinylsiloxane. Subsequently, the resulting models were digitized, and a digital complete denture was designed and manufactured in an expedited manner using CAD-CAM techniques. Therefore, this case report highlights the potential of CAD/CAM technology to predictably restabilize oral functions and improve patients' quality of life.

Background and Objectives: Atrial fibrillation (AF), a prevalent cardiac arrhythmia, significantly impacts the quality of life of those affected. The preferred treatment for symptomatic AF, particularly when pharmacological methods fall short, is catheter ablation with pulmonary vein isolation (PVI). While common pulmonary vein (PV) anatomical variants, such as the right accessory pulmonary vein and the common ostium of left pulmonary veins (LCPV), have been studied extensively, their impact on the long-term outcome of PVI is known to be minimal. ⋯ Post-procedure, the patient maintained a sinus rhythm and reported no further symptoms. Conclusions: This case highlights the importance of recognizing rare PV anatomies like CIPV in the effective management of AF. Tailored ablation strategies, accounting for unique anatomical conditions, can lead to successful long-term outcomes, reinforcing the need for personalized approaches in AF treatment, especially in cases involving complex anatomical variations.

Robotic-arm-assisted total knee arthroplasty (RATKA) with the MAKO system minimizes deviations in implant alignment and yields superior precision in implant position compared to a manual total knee arthroplasty. In this comprehensive commentary, we present and categorize the limitations and pitfalls of the procedure and we also provide recommendations for avoiding each limitation. The main surgeon-related limitations include prolonged operation duration, loose insertion of the checkpoints and pins, wrong registration and mapping, and damage to soft tissues during bone cutting. ⋯ In order to circumvent the potential challenges in this surgical procedure, it is essential to possess sufficient experience and undergo comprehensive training. Maintaining continuous awareness of the additional implants throughout the entire operation and prioritizing the preservation of soft tissues are of paramount significance. A profound comprehension of the system and its inherent constraints can also prove to be pivotal in certain situations.
