LENS CARE COMPLIANCE RATES AND PERCEPTIONS AMONG RIGID GAS PERMEABLE CONTACT LENS WEARERS - A PILOT STUDY.
The aim was to estimate compliance rate among rigid gas permeable lens wearers (RGPLW) in lens system care, identify procedures in lens care process with poorest compliance levels, and assess concordance between participant reported practices and their subjectively perceived compliance. The study included outpatient RGPLW managed at Zagreb University Hospital Center in Zagreb, Croatia. They filled out a questionnaire that included demographic data, duration of lens wear, self-evaluation compliance grade, and 14 lens care procedures and wearing habits indicative of compliance. ⋯ RGPLW were aware of their inappropriate lens care only when achieved non-compliance in almost 50% of the procedures. In conclusion, lens wearers were not aware of their extremely low compliance rate in several aspects of lens and lens case maintenance. Study results indicated the key procedures the practitioners should focus on when evaluating subjective and objective compliance and reinforcing care and hygiene education of RGPLW.

FAMILY PHYSICIAN OPINIONS ON ELECTRONIC TOOLS AND CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE PREVENTION GUIDELINE AVAILABILITY, USAGE AND ADHERENCE IN CROATIA.
Family physicians are burdened with a great number of guidelines considering different conditions they treat. We analyzed opinions of family physicians on electronic tools which help managing chronic conditions and their influence on patient care by cardiovascular disease (CVD) prevention guideline availability, usage and adherence. A descriptive study was performed on a convenient sample of 417 (response rate 56.0%) Croatian family physicians. ⋯ A group who used electronic tools on more than 80% of their patients had CVD prevention guidelines available to them frequently and used them on more than 60% of their patients, also strictly adhering to the guidelines (p<0.01). Physicians who used CVD prevention guidelines on more than 60% of their patients spent more time doing patient education (p=0.036). Using electronic tools helps Croatian family physicians in terms of availability, usage and adherence to the guidelines and quality improvement.

URINARY BLADDER CANCER RECURRENCE AND EXPRESSION OF LYNCH AND HER MARKERS: SEARCHING FOR IMMUNOHISTOCHEMICAL PATTERNS AMONG 113 TUMORS FROM 33 PATIENTS.
The aim was to identify immunohistochemical (IHC) markers able to predict recurrence of urinary bladder tumors. The method of multivariate adaptive regression splines (MARS) was applied to IHC data of 33 patients with urinary bladder cancer that relapsed one to six times (24 male and nine female, age 57-87 years). The MARS analysis was used to predict the total number of recurrences and the Ki-67 value by nine IHC markers (epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), HER2, HER3, E-cadherin, Ki-67, MLH1, MSH2, MSH6 and PMS2). ⋯ The finding of E-cadherin was not found relevant by any of these MARS models. In conclusion, the MARS results associated multiple IHC markers with the number of recurrences and with Ki-67 values. It is important that differences in predictive markers were found between initial tumors and first recurrences, and between quick and slow recurrences, thus suggesting that tumor biology is different among these subgroups regarding the total number of recurrences and Ki-67 values.

The aims of the study were to provide data on chronic kidney disease (CKD) prevalence in rural population and to analyze the association with cardiovascular risk factors and aging. A random sample of 2193 farmers (1333 female (F) and 860 male (M), mean age 50.61±17.12) were enrolled. Questionnaire and clinical examination were conducted. ⋯ In conclusion, CKD prevalence is high in rural population, being higher in women than in men. In both genders, eGFR significantly decreased with aging. Aging is a significant independent predictor of CKD.

Colorectal juvenile polyp as a pathologic entity was first described by Verse. These non-neoplastic lesions are most commonly found in children and infants, while in older children after the age of 14 and adults are a rare phenomenon. A 75-year-old female underwent colonoscopy. ⋯ Histopathologic examination indicated that histopathologic characteristics of this polyp corresponded to juvenile polyp. Juvenile polyps are very rarely found in adults. Therefore, we describe a case of this patient in her eighties with juvenile polyp localized in the transverse colon.
