While juvenile osteochondritis dissecans (JOCD) lesions have greater healing potential than equivalent lesions in adults, only 50% of JOCD lesions demonstrate radiographic healing after six months of non-operative treatment. Two previous studies have produced nomograms to predict a patient's probability of healing with non-operative treatment based on patient and lesion characteristics. The purpose of this study was to determine inter- and intra-observer reliability of the predictive nomograms. ⋯ There is high inter- and intra-rater reliability for both point systems for predicting healing of JOCD lesions. Clinicians should be aware of these as tools to help guide decision making in patients with JOCD lesions.

Soft tissue balancing is crucial to the success of total knee arthroplasty (TKA). To create a rectangular flexion joint gap, the rotation of the femoral component is important. The purpose of this study is to determine whether or not anatomical landmarks of the distal femoral condyles are parallel to the tibial bone cut surface in flexion. ⋯ The anatomical landmarks of the distal femoral condyles are not always parallel to the tibial bone cut surface in flexion. To create a rectangular flexion joint gap, the rotation of the femoral component rotation is based not only on the anatomical landmarks but also on the ligament balance.

Athletes with anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries usually undergo ACL-reconstruction (ACLR) in order to restore joint stability, so that dynamic maneuvers such as the sidestep cut can be performed. Despite restoration of joint stability after ACLR, many athletes do not return to pre-injury levels and may be at a high risk of a second ACL injury. The purpose of this study was to determine whether or not ACL loading, would increase after ACLR. ⋯ Higher total ACL loading in the ipsilateral limb of this athlete may suggest an increased risk of second ACL injury. The results of this study provide an initial step in understanding the effects of ACLR on the risk of second ACL injury in an elite athlete and suggest that it is important to develop a better understanding of this surgical intervention on knee joint loading, in order to reduce the risk of second ACL injury while performing dynamic maneuvers.

Patient reported outcome measures are widely used in the evaluation of outcomes after Total Knee Replacement (TKR) in joint registries and large studies. The aim of this study was to assess the relationship between the Oxford knee score (OKS) and range of motion (ROM) after TKR, and to construct and validate prediction models of ROM from the measured OKS. ⋯ The OKS is an independent predictor of ROM after TKR. It is also possible to predict ROM from the OKS, but the reliability of this is improved when other independent predictors such as age, gender, body mass index (BMI) and degree of knee extension are also acknowledged.
