Mean Duration of Mechanical Ventilation among Newborns Admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in a Tertiary Care Centre: A Descriptive Cross-sectional Study.
Neonatal deaths account for the majority of deaths in the first year of life. Life-threatening apnoea or cardiovascular collapse needs cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Technological advancements, such as the administration of antepartum steroids, replacement of surfactants, nasal continuous positive airway pressure, and mechanical ventilation have led to improved neonatal survival, especially for premature neonates. The aim of this study was to find out the mean duration of mechanical ventilation among newborns admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in a tertiary care centre. ⋯ mechanical ventilation; neonatal death; neonatal intensive care unit; neonate.

Hypothyroidism among Pregnant Women Attending the Outpatient Department of Obstetrics in a Tertiary Care Centre: A Descriptive Cross-sectional Study.
Hypothyroidism is a common endocrine disorder occurring in pregnancy. Maternal and fetal complications are present in these patients. Timely identification and treatment help in the prevention of complications. The aim of this study was to find out the prevalence of hypothyroidism among pregnant women attending the Outpatient Department of Obstetrics in a tertiary care centre. ⋯ complications; hypothyroidism; miscarriage; pregnancy; thyroid.

Subclinical Hypothyroidism among Patients with COVID-19 Infection in a Tertiary Care Centre: A Descriptive Cross-sectional Study.
Hypothyroidism occurs as a consequence of chronic autoimmune inflammation of the thyroid gland, which occurs due to the reduced function in the secretion of thyroid hormones. The coronavirus disease infection has shown many complications in all organic systems, during the acute phase of infection and in the post-COVID-19 period. SARS-CoV-2 may induce thyroid dysfunction that is usually reversible, including subclinical and atypical thyroiditis. The aim of this study was to find out the prevalence of subclinical hypothyroidism among patients with COVID-19 infection in a tertiary care centre. ⋯ COVID-19; hypothyroidism; thyroid gland.

Case ReportsMalignant Atrophic Papulosis Presenting with Intestinal Perforation: A Case Report.
Malignant atrophic papulosis sometimes known as Degos' disease is an idiopathic, uncommon condition with fewer than 200 occurrences documented. It is a chronic thrombo-obliterative vasculopathy characterised by papular skin lesions with a core porcelain-white atrophy and a surrounding telangiectatic border. We report a 15-year-old male patient with a recurrent history of hollow viscus perforation, which was managed on all the occasions with exploratory laparotomy and primary perforation repair. Additionally, the patient had a five month history of numerous, non-itchy, atrophic papules with a core porcelain-like area and hyperkeratotic margins, characteristic of Degos' disease. The only basis for diagnosis is the distinctive skin lesions with biopsy. Along with systemic lupus erythematosus and other connective tissue diseases, tuberculosis must also be taken into account while assessing the clinical presentation of malignant atrophic papulosis. There is currently no known treatment for malignant atrophic papulosis that has been effective. ⋯ case reports; intestinal perforation; malignant atrophic papulosis; ulcer; vasculitis.

Cap polyposis is a gastrointestinal disease with multiple inflammatory polyps between the distal colon and rectum. Its symptoms overlap with inflammatory bowel disease with typical endoscopic features of multiple sessile polyps in the rectum and sigmoid colon, located at the apices of transverse folds. Microscopically, the polyps consist of elongated, tortuous, and distended crypts covered by a "cap" of inflammatory granulation tissue. In this report, we present a case of a 18-year-old male patient who underwent polypectomy for polyposis in multiple settings. He presented with one year of painless rectal bleeding and polyposis in a recto-sigmoid area on colonoscopy, with a single polyp in the sigmoid area and multiple polyps in the rectum. He was managed with immediate and interval polypectomy. Though cap polyposis is rare, it can be cured as it is laparoscopically resectable. ⋯ case reports; granulation tissue; inflammatory bowel diseases; polyps.
