The study of the serum lipase and total amylase and its isoenzymes as biochemical markers of pancreatic injury in patients treated with valproic acid and other enzyme-inducing antiepileptic drugs. ⋯ In patients treated with antiepileptic drugs, the determination of the pancreatic isoenzyme of amylase would be of interest even in absence of clinical signs for acute pancreatitis.

To describe the frequency and bibliographical characteristics of letters to the editor published in the Farmacia Hospitalaria journal (hospital pharmacy) between 1995 and 2006. ⋯ Letters to the editor in Farmacia Hospitalaria significantly increased during the last two years of the period studied and were practically non-existent before this. It is worth noting that many of the letters were written in collaboration with other health professionals and with the support of a number of institutions. It is compulsory that the letters meet publishing requirements, with the exception of a number of authors and references which were published without being thoroughly checked beforehand.

Randomized clinical trial of a postdischarge pharmaceutical care program vs regular follow-up in patients with heart failure.
To assess the efficacy of a multifactorial educational intervention carried out by a pharmacist in patients with heart failure (HF). ⋯ Postdischarge pharmaceutical care allows for reducing the number of new admissions in patients with heart failure, the total days of hospital stay, and improves treatment compliance without increasing the costs of care.
