ReviewEmerging Influence of the Intestinal Microbiota during Allogeneic Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation: Control the Gut and the Body Will Follow.
The intestinal microbiota has many critical roles in maintaining gastrointestinal epithelial and gastrointestinal systemic immune homeostasis. This review provides insight into how allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) and its associated complications and supportive care therapies affect the microbiota. Additionally, the review discusses how preservation and restoration of the microbiota might be advantageous in decreasing HCT-related morbidity and mortality.

Review Case ReportsManagement of relapsed multiple myeloma after autologous stem cell transplant.
Autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT) remains a standard of care for multiple myeloma patients who are eligible to receive high-dose therapy, recognizing that the optimal timing and integration of this approach is now under study in a number of randomized trials. Despite the improved response rates with induction therapy consisting of immunomodulatory drugs and/or proteasome inhibitors, as well as the increasing use of post-ASCT maintenance therapy, most myeloma patients relapse and die of their disease. Here we discuss the options for managing post-ASCT relapse, including the role of various salvage regimens in the setting of relapsed and refractory myeloma, salvage ASCT, and salvage allogeneic SCT.

ReviewPulmonary hypertension after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.
Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a potentially fatal complication of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). Given its nonspecific clinical presentation, it is likely that this clinical entity is underdiagnosed after HSCT. ⋯ Physicians caring for HSCT recipients should be aware of this severe post-transplant complication because timely diagnosis and treatment may allow improved clinical outcomes. We summarize the pathophysiology, clinical presentation, diagnosis, and management of PH in HSCT recipients.
