Outcomes of minor and subsyndromal depression among elderly patients in primary care settings.
Although depressive conditions in later life are a major public health problem, the outcomes of minor and subsyndromal depression are largely unknown. ⋯ The intermediate outcomes of minor and subsyndromal depression demonstrate the clinical significance of these conditions and suggest that they are part of a spectrum of depressive illness. Greater medical burden, poor subjective health status, and poorer subjective social support confer a higher risk for poor outcome.

Progress of diabetes care is a subject of public health concern. ⋯ Diabetes processes of care and intermediate outcomes have improved nationally in the past decade. But 2 in 5 persons with diabetes still have poor LDL cholesterol control, 1 in 3 persons still has poor blood pressure control, and 1 in 5 persons still has poor glycemic control.
