The effect of drug concentration expression on epinephrine dosing errors: a randomized trial.
The expression of drug concentration as a ratio may cause dosing errors. ⋯ The use of ratios to express drug concentration may be a source of drug administration error. Patient safety might be improved by expressing drug concentrations exclusively as mass concentration.

Antiproteinase 3 antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies and disease activity in Wegener granulomatosis.
The utility of antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA) levels to guide the management of patients with Wegener granulomatosis remains controversial. ⋯ Pro-PR3-ANCA is no better than mature-PR3-ANCA as a measure of Wegener granulomatosis activity. Decreases in PR3-ANCA levels are not associated with shorter time to remission, and increases are not associated with relapse. These findings suggest that ANCA levels cannot be used to guide immunosuppressive therapy.

Effect of low-dose aspirin on the occurrence of venous thromboembolism: a randomized trial.
Short-term aspirin therapy can lower the risk for venous thromboembolism (VTE) in high-risk patients, but whether the long-term use of low-dose aspirin reduces risk in healthy adults is uncertain. ⋯ These data suggest that long-term, low-dose aspirin treatment has little effect on the prevention of VTE in initially healthy women. ClinicalTrials.gov registration number: NCT00000479.

The effect of adherence to practice guidelines on depression outcomes.
Few studies have assessed clinician adherence to depression practice guidelines and the relationship between clinician adherence and depression outcomes. ⋯ Adherence to guidelines was high for one third of the recommendations that were measured but was very low for nearly half of the measures, pointing to specific needs for quality improvement. Guideline-concordant depression care appears to be linked to improved outcomes in primary care patients with depression.

Infection risk with nitrofurazone-impregnated urinary catheters in trauma patients: a randomized trial.
Urinary tract infection is one of the most common nosocomial infections in hospitalized patients. It is predominantly associated with indwelling urinary catheters. ⋯ Nitrofurazone-impregnated urinary catheters reduced the incidence of CABF in adult trauma patients, reducing the need to change or prescribe new antimicrobial therapy. ClinicalTrials.gov registration number: NCT00192985.
