Our objective was to define the optimal growth factor treatment to be used in combination with lymph node transfer to normalize lymphatic vascular anatomy. ⋯ Lymphangiogenic growth factors improve lymphatic vessel regeneration and lymph node function after lymph node transfer. The perinodal route of delivery provides a basis for future clinical trials in lymphedema patients.

The ability to accurately predict postoperative mortality is expected to improve preoperative decisions for elderly patients considered for colorectal surgery. ⋯ Colorectal surgery in elderly patients is associated with significantly higher mortality. This novel nomogram that predicts postoperative mortality may facilitate preoperative treatment decisions.

To determine if reduction in nitric oxide bioactivity contributes to the physiological instability that occurs after brain death and, if so, to also determine in this setting whether administration of a renitrosylating agent could improve systemic physiological status. ⋯ In humans, the parameters monitored in this study are predictive of post-graft function. As such, maintenance of endocrine nitric oxide bioactivity after brain death may provide a novel means to improve the quality of organs available for donation.

To overcome the therapeutic limitations of malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH), we evaluated human adipose tissue-derived mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) that secrete tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL) on metastatic MFH. ⋯ These results suggest that MSC-TRAIL is sufficiently effective in inhibiting MFH-ino metastasis and the application using MSC-TRAIL could be extended to other sarcomas and recurrent metastatic cancers for cell-mediated cancer therapy.
