To evaluate the impact of care at high-performing hospitals on the National Quality Forum (NQF) colon cancer metrics. ⋯ Less than half of hospitals perform well on these NQF colon cancer metrics concurrently, and high performance on individual measures is not associated with improved survival. Quality improvement efforts should shift focus from individual measures to defining composite measures encompassing the overall multimodal care pathway and capturing successful transitions from one care modality to another.

The aim of this study is to investigate the impact of the circumferential resection margin (CRM) in esophageal cancer on survival and recurrence in patients without pretreatment. ⋯ CRM was found to have no impact on survival and recurrence in esophageal cancer. Therefore, the possible impact of neoadjuvant pretreatment in locally advanced tumors should be considered with caution in terms of an improved resectability.
