The aim of this study was to test the hypothesis that intraoperative frozen section (FS) and re-resection results to achieve R0 status are associated with different long-term outcomes in pancreatic cancer patients. ⋯ FS analysis with intraoperative re-resection should be performed routinely in patients undergoing pancreatic cancer surgery with the aim to achieve a R0 resection.

The aim of our study was to analyze the miRNome of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) and its preneoplastic lesion intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm (IPMN), to find new microRNA (miRNA)-based biomarkers for early detection of pancreatic neoplasia. ⋯ miRNome analysis shows that PDAC and IPMN have differential miRNA profiles with respect to C, with a large number of deregulated miRNAs shared by both neoplastic lesions. Indeed, we have identified and validated 30 miRNAs whose expression is significantly increased in PDAC and IPMN lesions. The feasibility of detecting these miRNAs in endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration samples makes them good biomarker candidates for early detection of pancreatic cancer.

To determine the therapeutic effects of dietary supplementation on Clostridium difficile infection (CDI). ⋯ I3C is a powerful treatment to reduce impact of CDI in mice. The findings indicate I3C may be acting through both AHR-dependent and -independent mechanisms in this model. Dietary supplementation with I3C is a potential new therapy for prevention and amelioration of C. difficile disease.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the usefulness of the Mac-2 binding protein glycosylation isomer (M2BPGi) for the prediction of posthepatectomy liver failure (PHLF) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients. ⋯ M2BPGi is a useful predictor of PHLF, especially in patients with HCV infection.
