Saccular Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms: Patient Characteristics, Clinical Presentation, Treatment, and Outcomes in the Netherlands.
The aim of this was to analyze differences between saccular-shaped abdominal aortic aneurysms (SaAAAs) and fusiform abdominal aortic aneurysms (FuAAAs) regarding patient characteristics, treatment, and outcome, to advise a threshold for intervention for SaAAAs. ⋯ SaAAAs become acute at smaller diameters than FuAAAs in DSAA patients. This study therefore supports the current idea that SaAAAs should be electively treated at smaller diameters than FuAAAs. The exact diameter threshold for elective treatment of SaAAAs is difficult to determine, but a diameter of 45 mm seems to be an acceptable threshold.

The aim of this study was to investigate variation in the frequency of resections for colorectal cancer liver metastases across the English NHS. ⋯ This study presents the largest reported population-based analysis of liver resection rates in colorectal cancer patients. Significant variation has been observed in patient and hospital characteristics and the likelihood of patients receiving a liver resection, with the data showing that proximity to a liver resection service is as important a factor as deprivation.

The aim of this study was to assess the effect of cancer-related genes and their mutations analyzed by next-generation sequencing (NGS) on the oncological outcome after resection of colorectal liver metastases (CRLM). ⋯ In conclusion, mutations of the SMAD family revealed a strong prognostic effect after surgery for CRLM. Integration of alterations of the SMAD family as well as the RAS/RAF pathway resulted in a new, still simple but highly prognostic score.

Anastomotic Techniques and Associated Morbidity in Total Minimally Invasive Transthoracic Esophagectomy: Results From the EsoBenchmark Database.
The aim of this study was to describe anastomotic techniques used for total minimally invasive transthoracic esophagectomy (ttMIE) and to analyze the associated morbidity. ⋯ Results of this analysis present the current status of the technical evolution of ttMIE with anastomotic leakage as predominant surgical complication. However, technique-related morbidity requires cautious interpretation considering the long learning curve of this complex surgical procedure.

The Neglectable Impact of Delayed Graft Function on Long-term Graft Survival in Kidneys Donated After Circulatory Death Associates With Superior Organ Resilience.
To explore putative different impacts of delayed graft function (DGF) on long-term graft survival in kidneys donated after brain death (DBD) and circulatory death (DCD). ⋯ This study shows an absent impact of DGF on long-term graft survival in DCD kidneys. Molecular evaluation suggests that the differential impact of DGF between DBD and DCD grafts relates to donor-type specific activation of resilience pathways in DCD grafts.
