To investigate the residual pattern of esophageal cancer in the esophageal wall after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) and its clinical significance. ⋯ After NAC for locally advanced esophageal cancer, the shallow residual tumor pattern was most common, but approximately 40% of specimens showed no tumor cells in the mucosal layer. Deep and diffuse remnant patterns were associated with high risks of pleural dissemination and distant metastasis.

Our aims were to describe a new surgical technique for the treatment of type A aortic dissection (TAAD) and to report the operative outcomes of 154 patients. ⋯ The aortic arch inclusion technique with FET provides a safe alternative for TAAD treatment, with satisfactory operative results. Short-term follow-up results are encouraging, and long-term outcomes need further evaluation.

To present a novel network-based framework for the study of collaboration in surgery and demonstrate how this can be used in practice to help build and nurture collaborations that foster innovation. ⋯ In the era of global surgery and increasing complexity of surgical innovation, this study highlights the importance of establishing open networks spanning geographical boundaries. Network analysis offers a valuable framework for assisting surgeons in their efforts to forge and sustain collaborations with the highest potential of maximizing innovation and patient care.

Povidone-iodine Irrigation for Pediatric Perforated Appendicitis May Be Protective: A Bayesian Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial.
A randomized controlled trial was conducted to test the hypothesis that povidone-iodine (PVI) irrigation versus no irrigation (NI) reduces postoperative intra-abdominal abscess (IAA) in children with perforated appendicitis. ⋯ PVI irrigation for perforated appendicitis in children demonstrated a strong probability of reduction in postoperative IAA with a high probability of decreased LOS. With the favorable probability of benefit in all outcomes, this pilot study serves as evidence to continue a definitive trial.
