Randomized Controlled Trial of Compression After Endovenous Thermal Ablation of Varicose Veins (COMETA Trial).
The 21st century has witnessed a rise in the use of endovenous thermal ablation. Being highly clinically and cost-effective and improving the quality of life of patients, they are now considered to be the "gold-standard" treatment for varicose veins. Post-intervention management, especially in terms of postoperative compression, however, remains unclear. As a result, a randomized study was undertaken to investigate the effects of wearing compression stockings after varicose vein treatment. ⋯ These results indicate that wearing compression stockings after endothermal ablation is advantageous in the first few days after treatment and is especially beneficial for those having concurrent phlebectomies.

Short-term Outcomes of Single-port Versus Multiport Laparoscopic Surgery for Colon Cancer: The SIMPLE Multicenter Randomized Clinical Trial.
To compare short-term perioperative outcomes of single-port laparoscopic surgery (SPLS) and multiport laparoscopic surgery (MPLS) for colon cancer. ⋯ Even though there was no obvious benefit to SPLS over MPLS when performing colectomy for cancer, our data suggest that SPLS is noninferior to MPLS and can be considered an option in selected patients, when performed by experienced surgeons.Trial registration: ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT01480128.

Recent progress in biomechatronics and vascularized composite allotransplantation have occurred in the absence of congruent advancements in the surgical approaches generally utilized for limb amputation. Consideration of these advances, as well as of both novel and time-honored reconstructive surgical techniques, argues for a fundamental reframing of the way in which amputation procedures should be performed. ⋯ We propose a reinvention of the manner in which limb amputations are performed, framed in the context of time-tested reconstructive techniques, as well as novel, state-of-the-art surgical procedures. Implementation of the proposed techniques in the acute setting has the potential to elevate advanced limb replacement strategies to a clinical solution that perhaps exceeds what is possible through traditional surgical approaches to limb salvage. We therefore argue that amputation, performed with the intent of optimizing the residuum for interaction with either a bionic or a transplanted limb, should be viewed not as a surgical failure, but as an alternative form of limb reconstruction.

We described our experiences on pediatric liver transplantation (LT) from the largest LT center in the world termed the Shiraz Transplant Center. ⋯ This is the largest single-center report on pediatric LT in literature which provides valuable experiences in pediatric LT.
