The aim of this study was to evaluate factors associated with time to surgical recurrence after Crohn's ileocolectomy. ⋯ Ileocolonic distribution of disease and the rs2066844 SNP in NOD2 are associated with shorter time to recurrent ileocolectomy. The initiation of postoperative biologics in naïve patients was associated with a reduced incidence of recurrence over time.

This systematic review aims to assess what is known about convalescence following abdominal surgery. Through a review of the basic science and clinical literature, we explored the effect of physical activity on the healing fascia and the optimal timing for postoperative activity. ⋯ This systematic review identified gaps in our understanding of what is best for patients recovering from abdominal surgery. Randomized controlled trials are crucial in safely optimizing the recovery period.

To analyze the epidemiology of ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysms (RAAA) in Sweden over 20 years, and assess the effect of endovascular repair (EVAR) on surgical treatment rate and outcome. ⋯ RAAA mortality among men decreased, mainly attributed to falling incidence of RAAA. The mortality was further reduced by more patients being offered repair, increasingly often with EVAR, and improved survival after repair. Incidence of rupture remained unchanged among women, who had higher RAAA mortality. Focused efforts to reduce RAAA mortality among women are warranted.
